The Centre has allowed resident welfare associations (RWAs), developers and private entities to propose and implement civic infrastructure projects under the INR 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund. The scheme shifts part of the responsibility from financially stressed urban local bodies to citizen groups and private stakeholders. The Centre will provide around INR 20,000 crore annually for five years, with states matching the contribution and the remaining funds raised through loans, bonds and private investment. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has revised the land acquisition cost for the Vadhvan port connectivity project in Maharashtra to about INR 2,300 crore, up from the earlier estimate of around INR 800 crore. The increase is due to higher guideline rates and recent land transactions in Palghar district. A total of 606 hectares across 24 villages is being acquired for road and rail links. District authorities in Gurugram conducted a large-scale anti-encroachment operation along Golf Course Road that resulted in the demolition of nearly 450 illegal shanties, spread over approximately two acres of government-notified land in the Saraswati Kunj area of Sector 53. The action, carried out with police support on the weekend before last, formed part of ongoing enforcement efforts to curb unauthorised construction and encroachments that have persisted despite legal restrictions and notices. Officials stated that the structures, which lacked proper permissions and had emerged in a disputed colony, were razed without major disturbances and that similar drives had been undertaken previously as part of a continued monitoring and removal campaign. The new suburban railway station at Kilambakkam and the 275-metre elevated skywalk connecting it to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) are expected to open in March. The proposed Sonepur greenfield airport in Bihar has moved forward after receiving site clearance from the Union civil aviation ministry, with the state government initiating the tender process. The Centre has approved INR 97 crore for upgrading Sairang railway station in Mizoram into a world-class facility. The decision was shared in the state assembly by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The Union government has rolled out the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) 2.0 with a target to mobilise INR 10 lakh crore over five years. The revised pipeline estimates a total monetisation potential of INR 16.72 lakh crore between FY26 and FY30, including INR 5.8 lakh crore from private investment. The Union government has introduced a new quality-assessment initiative for ongoing National Highway projects, shifting the focus from network expansion to construction standards and reliability. The programme, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, deploys Mobile Quality Control Vans (MQCVs) to carry out rapid, on-site diagnostics of highway works. Pilot projects have already been implemented across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka and Odisha. These vans operate as moving laboratories equipped with non-destructive testing tools to assess pavement and structural quality. Test findings will be shared with field offices for corrective action where deficiencies are identified. Adani Power's subsidiary Moxie Power Generation Ltd has secured a five-year contract to supply 558 MW of electricity to Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. The company emerged as the lowest bidder by quoting a tariff of INR 5.910 per unit, with supply scheduled to begin from April 1, 2026. The contract strengthens Adani Power's long-term revenue visibility, with over 95 per cent of its operating capacity now tied to medium- and long-term agreements. Bharti Airtel plans to invest INR 20,000 crore over the coming years into its NBFC arm, Airtel Money Limited, aiming to build a large-scale digital lending platform and broaden formal credit access in India.
