Synopsis

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed a 165-key greenfield Vivanta hotel at Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, expanding its presence in an emerging aviation-linked corridor. The project is positioned to cater to corporate, MICE, and transit demand, supported by infrastructure development and tourism initiatives in the Visakhapatnam Bheemili Bhogapuram region. The signing reflects continued hotel development activity in airport-driven micro-markets, where connectivity upgrades and regional growth corridors are shaping demand for organised hospitality assets.

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed a greenfield 165-key Vivanta hotel at Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, in recent days, as part of its expansion strategy in emerging airport-led hospitality markets.

The proposed hotel will be developed in proximity to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, which is expected to function as a key aviation hub in the region. The project is positioned along the Visakhapatnam Bheemili Bhogapuram corridor, an area witnessing increased infrastructure activity and regional connectivity improvements.

IHCL indicated that the location is expected to generate demand from a mix of segments, including corporate travellers, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), and transit passengers. The development is aligned with broader trends where hospitality operators are expanding in airport-linked micro-markets to capture demand driven by air traffic growth and associated commercial activity.

Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President for Real Estate and Development at IHCL, stated that the region offers potential supported by infrastructure development and government-led tourism initiatives. She added that the hotel's location near the airport is expected to support demand across business and transit segments.

Bhogapuram International Airport, currently under development, is expected to enhance connectivity to the northern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, complementing existing aviation infrastructure in Visakhapatnam. The airport is anticipated to play a role in supporting tourism, trade, and regional mobility, contributing to increased economic activity in surrounding areas.

The signing of the Vivanta hotel reflects IHCL's continued focus on expanding its presence in growth corridors where infrastructure investments are driving demand for organised hospitality assets. Airport-centric developments have emerged as a key strategy for hotel operators, particularly in cities and regions undergoing connectivity upgrades.

With the addition of this project, IHCL's portfolio in Andhra Pradesh will expand to nine hotels, including four properties currently under development. The company has been increasing its footprint across tier-II and emerging destinations, alongside established urban centres.

The project adds to the pipeline of hospitality developments linked to infrastructure-led growth corridors, where improved accessibility and rising economic activity are influencing location strategies for hotel operators.
