Synopsis

Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy recently announced plans to develop affordable housing along Hyderabad's Outer and Regional Ring Roads, targeting middle and lower-middle-class families. Projects are proposed on 100-acre plots along key highways. Under the Indiramma housing scheme, beneficiary identification will prioritize vulnerable groups like widows and disabled individuals. A new app will streamline the process, and the Centre will co-fund units with the state covering the remainder. The government aims to complete 60,000 pending 2BHK units in GHMC, with INR 197 crore allocated for minor works. These initiatives emphasize inclusive development and transparency.

Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy recently announced that the state government is considering developing housing projects along the Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Road, in three key locations around the city, to provide affordable housing for the middle and lower-middle classes. He stated that the Housing Department plans to identify 100 acres of land each along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, near Kamareddy, and on the Mumbai highway for housing development.

Regarding the Indiramma housing scheme, the minister revealed that the identification of beneficiaries will commence soon and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Under the Praja Palana scheme, 86 lakh applications were received, and after careful vetting, 37 lakh applications have been preliminarily deemed eligible. The first phase of the scheme will prioritise widows, disabled individuals, and the poorest segments of society.

The minister further clarified that the list of beneficiaries will be presented to the village gram sabha before being finalised. He also mentioned that a new app is under development for the housing scheme as directed by the Centre. The Centre will contribute INR 1.5 lakh per unit for urban housing and INR 72,000 for rural housing units. The state government will cover the remaining INR 5 lakh per unit, which will be disbursed in four stages. A model house for the 2BHK scheme will be displayed at the MPDO offices in mandals.

The minister also promised to complete the previously launched 2BHK scheme wherein 1.53 lakh units were sanctioned of which only 92,000 were actually constructed within the GHMC area. The remaining 60,000 houses will be completed, and minor works in the completed 2BHK houses will be finished in the next two weeks, with INR 197 crore allocated for these tasks.

The state government's commitment to affordable housing is clear through the development of new projects and the continuation of the Indiramma housing scheme. The government plans to prioritise vulnerable groups and has introduced measures to ensure transparency in identifying beneficiaries. The focus on completing the 2BHK housing scheme, along with the allocation of INR 197 crore, reflects the government's determination to meet housing needs while holding past administrations accountable. These efforts aim to foster inclusive development and improve living conditions for the city's residents.
