Infrastructure projects with an individual value of over INR 150 crore have collectively recorded cost overruns amounting to INR 5.42 lakh crore, according to a government monitoring report released earlier this week. The revised cost of 1,392 ongoing central sector projects has risen to INR 35.10 lakh crore, compared to their original estimated outlay of INR 29.68 lakh crore. Data published by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) shows that more than half of the revised project cost has already been incurred, indicating significant progress despite cost pressures. The transport and logistics segment accounts for the largest share of projects and investment value, highlighting continued policy emphasis on connectivity-led infrastructure expansion. The findings are based on disclosures made through the newly launched PAIMANA digital monitoring portal.Read more

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) has invited bids for key infrastructure works on the Ramwadi Wagholi section of the Pune Metro Phase-2 expansion, signalling progress on one of the city's largest upcoming transport corridors. The tender covers construction of an elevated Metro viaduct and a six-lane elevated road beneath it along a 4.8-km stretch between Ramwadi and Tuljabhavani Chowk, part of the longer 11.6-km corridor featuring 11 stations. Both works are planned to be executed in tandem to minimise disruption and to integrate transit and road infrastructure. The broader Phase-2 project, approved by the Union Cabinet, is estimated at around INR 3,626.2 crore and will extend the Pune Metro network eastwards to Wagholi, improving connectivity on heavily congested routes and supporting urban mobility. Maha Metro has scheduled pre-bid engagement and set a timeline for bid submissions, with construction expected to span 42 months from commencement.Read more

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has announced plans to set up a micro data centre to digitise the city's water supply network, officials said, as part of broader efforts to improve monitoring and reduce water losses. The centre will integrate geographic information systems (GIS), artificial intelligence, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and sensor technology to monitor water infrastructure in real time, allowing more precise tracking of supply, consumption and losses arising from leakages or theft. Gurugram will be divided into District Metered Areas (DMAs) to enhance the accuracy of data collection and enable quicker response to network faults. The initiative is inspired by advanced water management practices and aims to strengthen service reliability. Initially focused on water supply, the digital infrastructure could later be extended to cover other civic utilities such as sewerage systems. Implementation is expected to unfold over a two-year timeline.Read more

Indian Railways has enforced stricter safety protocols for power cars after repeated lapses were found in fire safety systems installed in these coaches. The Railway Board has directed that no power car will be allowed into service without a joint inspection and certification by mechanical and electrical staff. The move follows inspections that revealed faulty Fire Detection and Suppression Systems, low nitrogen pressure, damaged valves and systems being kept inactive. The revised process introduces detailed checklists, clearer accountability and aims to reduce fire-related risks on passenger trains.Read more
