Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) has invited bids for key infrastructure works on the Ramwadi Wagholi section of the Pune Metro Phase-2 expansion, signalling progress on one of the city's largest upcoming transport corridors. The tender covers construction of an elevated Metro viaduct and a six-lane elevated road beneath it along a 4.8-km stretch between Ramwadi and Tuljabhavani Chowk, part of the longer 11.6-km corridor featuring 11 stations. Both works are planned to be executed in tandem to minimise disruption and to integrate transit and road infrastructure. The broader Phase-2 project, approved by the Union Cabinet, is estimated at around INR 3,626.2 crore and will extend the Pune Metro network eastwards to Wagholi, improving connectivity on heavily congested routes and supporting urban mobility. Maha Metro has scheduled pre-bid engagement and set a timeline for bid submissions, with construction expected to span 42 months from commencement.
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) has formally launched the bidding process for significant infrastructure packages on the Ramwadi Wagholi section of the Pune Metro Phase-2 corridor, marking a major step in extending rapid transit in the city's eastern suburbs. The move follows earlier project approvals and detailed design work for the broader corridor, which has been sanctioned as part of Phase-2 of the Pune Metro expansion programme.
The current tenders encompass the construction of an elevated Metro viaduct and an accompanying six-lane elevated road along a 4.8-km stretch from Ramwadi to Tuljabhavani Chowk, incorporating four future Metro stations Vimannagar, Somnathnagar, Kharadi Bypass and Tuljabhavani. Beneath this section, a parallel 4.7-km elevated roadway will be constructed to enhance traffic flow on Nagar Road, a critical arterial route that experiences heavy congestion. Both sets of works are to be undertaken simultaneously to streamline construction and reduce prolonged disruption to commuters.
The Ramwadi Wagholi corridor is a key component of Phase-2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project, which received cabinet approval last year and is forecast to add approximately 12.75 km of elevated metro lines with 13 stations. The project is being implemented by Maha Metro with joint funding from the Government of India, the Government of Maharashtra and external agencies, and is expected to be completed within four years.
Pre-construction activities such as design and surveys have been completed and Maha Metro has announced plans to hold a pre-bid meeting soon, providing interested contractors with details ahead of formal bid submissions. The deadline for online submission of bids is scheduled for early March. The integrated package of a metro viaduct and elevated road reflects a growing trend in urban infrastructure planning to co-ordinate multi-modal transport solutions within high-growth corridors.
Local stakeholders and commuters have emphasised the importance of timely execution, noting that improvements along the Nagar Road corridor will help ease daily travel and support broader urban connectivity, particularly as the Pune Metropolitan Region continues to expand.
