The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is anticipated to reduce congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) by 2025, with operations expected to commence in May that year. The airport, featuring one terminal and one runway in its first phase, will accommodate 20 million passengers and 0.8 million tons of cargo annually. Spread across 1,160 hectares, NMIA is India's largest greenfield airport and is designed to handle 90 million passengers annually upon full completion. In 2024, apartment sales in Greater Mumbai and Thane saw a slight decline, with Greater Mumbai experiencing a 3% drop and Thane a 6% drop compared to the previous year. However, Navi Mumbai saw a significant growth of 23%. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as a whole recorded sales of 1,55,335 units, with Greater Mumbai contributing to 69% of these sales. The report from Anarock Property Consultants also noted a reduction in new supply, particularly in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, while Thane saw a slight decline in new launches. A 48-year-old doctor in Thane has reportedly been defrauded of INR 70 lakh by three individuals in a property scam. The trio allegedly sold the doctor a flat in Navi Mumbai's Kalamboli area that had already been sold to another party. Despite receiving the payment, they failed to hand over possession of the flat or return the money. Work has started on the INR 2099-crore Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Link Road (KTLR) project, aimed at reducing travel time between Turbhe and Kharghar from 40 minutes to 10 minutes. Overseen by CIDCO, the project features a 1.8-km twin tunnel through Kharghar hill, a 3.4-km elevated viaduct, and a 1.5-km elevated road connecting Central Park to Taloja. Scheduled for completion by September 2028, the KTLR will ease congestion on the Sion-Panvel highway, improve east-west connectivity, and enhance access to Atal Setu and Navi Mumbai Airport. HDFC Bank has secured an entire 8-storey office building with a total area of 400,000 sq ft in the Mindspace Airoli West complex, Navi Mumbai, under a long-term lease agreement for 10 years. The bank will pay over INR 320 crore in rent, including a 15% escalation every three years, as per agreements with Mindspace Business Parks REIT. Navi Mumbai police have filed a case against four individuals for allegedly defrauding a Mumbai-based interior designer of over INR 68 lakh by falsely selling her land. The complaint, lodged at the Nerul police station, noted that one accused has died. Senior Inspector Bramhanand Naikwadi revealed that the accused sold a plot in Pali, Raigad district, to a 46-year-old victim but failed to deliver possession. Sumit Jain, who was recently murdered, is among the accused, along with real estate agent Vitthal Baban Nakde, Virendra Kadam, and Chandrakant Sawant, who allegedly impersonated the land's legitimate owner.
