The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its efforts to ensure the roads and footpaths within its jurisdiction remain accessible to citizens. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has been regularly reviewing the city's management, highlighting the nuisance caused by abandoned vehicles and unauthorized vendors. These issues have been disrupting both traffic flow and the city's cleanliness. In response, the Encroachment Department has been instructed to issue notices to vehicle owners and take strict action under Sections 230 and 231 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949. Additionally, a campaign will soon be launched to remove unauthorized hawkers and vendors from sidewalks to restore public spaces to their intended use.
It is essential that the roads falling under the jurisdiction of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) remain open for traffic and that footpaths are kept accessible for citizens. However, it has been observed in several areas that two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers are frequently parked on the roads. Furthermore, the number of vendors conducting unauthorized business along these roads and on the footpaths has been increasing day by day.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has been holding regular reviews regarding the well-planned management of Navi Mumbai city. During these reviews, he has raised concerns about the nuisance caused by vehicles parked indiscriminately and unauthorised business owners, which have been disturbing the city's order. It was noted that these abandoned vehicles have become obstacles to maintaining the city's cleanliness, and unauthorised hawkers have also been contributing to the disruption of sanitation efforts. In light of this, the Commissioner has directed the Encroachment Department and various departmental offices to take immediate action.
Taking the matter more seriously, Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has instructed the Divisional Officers from all departments to issue notices concerning abandoned vehicles found within the limits of the Municipal Corporation. These actions are being carried out through the departmental offices under Sections 230 and 231 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949. It has been advised that owners of such vehicles should remove them on their own, and public awareness initiatives are to be conducted via announcements made through loudspeakers installed in rickshaws.
Clear directives have been provided that, upon the expiry of the notice period, these abandoned vehicles are to be seized by the respective department offices. They will then be transported to the designated launch pad with the aid of towing services, and further action will be pursued in accordance with the stipulated regulations.
In addition to the removal of abandoned vehicles, a campaign is set to be launched aimed at removing vehicles used for unauthorised business activities. Efforts will also target unauthorised hawkers and vendors who are causing obstructions by conducting business on footpaths and sidewalks.
Navi Mumbai is recognised as a well-planned, modern city, and this campaign against unauthorised elements disrupting public spaces has been described as crucial for ensuring that citizens can make proper use of roads and footpaths. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has appealed to the well-informed residents of Navi Mumbai to extend their full cooperation in this initiative.
