The completion timeline for the Porvorim elevated corridor in Goa has been extended to October 2026 in the past week, as construction delays linked to traffic movement, structural execution and site constraints continue to affect progress on the project along NH-66.


The six-lane elevated corridor, spanning approximately 5.15 km between Porvorim and Mapusa, is being developed to reduce congestion on one of the state's busiest arterial routes. The project is designed to segregate through traffic from local movement, thereby improving travel time and easing bottlenecks in the Porvorim stretch.

Officials from the Public Works Department indicated that the project has faced multiple execution challenges, particularly in relation to managing traffic along the existing highway during construction. Continuous vehicular movement through the work zone has affected the pace of segment launching, which is a critical activity in completing the elevated structure.

Contractors involved in the project have pointed out that limited right-of-way availability has further constrained operations. The corridor itself occupies nearly the entire width of the available carriageway, leaving minimal space for construction equipment and material movement alongside ongoing traffic. This has necessitated additional safety precautions, contributing to slower progress on site.

The delay also follows earlier technical adjustments, including the need for deeper pile foundations in certain sections, which extended the construction schedule beyond initial estimates. As a result, the project, which was originally targeted for completion earlier, has undergone successive deadline revisions.

Progress updates indicate that a significant portion of the structure has been completed, with more than half of the superstructure already in place. However, a number of segments remain to be launched, and finishing works are yet to be undertaken across sections of the corridor.

Authorities have stated that the revised October 2026 deadline is intended to provide sufficient time for completing the remaining structural and finishing work while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. An earlier extension of approximately six months had already been granted to the contractor to account for delays in execution.

The elevated corridor is part of broader efforts to upgrade road infrastructure in Goa, particularly along the NH-66 corridor, which serves as a key connectivity spine for both passenger and freight traffic. Once operational, the project is expected to streamline vehicular movement through Porvorim, which currently experiences frequent congestion due to mixed traffic and limited road capacity.

The revised timeline indicates a continued focus on completing the project despite ongoing logistical and technical challenges, with authorities monitoring execution progress as the corridor moves towards its next targeted completion milestone.
