The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified enforcement of its Good Construction Practice Policy by sealing three construction sites in the Gota area in the past week for failing to implement mandatory dust mitigation measures. The projects Evera, S Plus and Solo Bliss 2 were found non-compliant with requirements such as green netting and barricading to control particulate emissions. One of the sites was additionally fined INR 1 lakh for spilling construction material onto a public road, creating a traffic hazard. The crackdown extended to other parts of the city, with additional penalties imposed in Bodakdev and Thaltej for pollution and safety violations. The drive also included removal of encroachments along a key service road to ease traffic movement.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) sealed three under-construction residential projects in the Gota locality in the past week after inspections found violations of mandated dust control and safety measures, halting work at the sites and imposing penalties for non-compliance.
The enforcement action followed a surprise inspection conducted by the Estate and Town Development Officer (TDO) department of the North West Zone, which identified that the projects Evera, S Plus and Solo Bliss 2 had not installed compulsory green nets and barricades required under the city's Good Construction Practice Policy. These measures are intended to contain dust emissions and reduce particulate pollution from construction activity.
Officials determined that the absence of these safeguards constituted a direct breach of municipal regulations, leading to immediate sealing of the sites and suspension of construction activity. In addition to the closure, the Solo Bliss 2 project was penalised INR 1 lakh after construction materials were found spilling onto a public road, creating a safety risk and disrupting traffic flow.
The inspection formed part of a broader city-wide enforcement drive targeting environmental and safety compliance across active construction projects. In Bodakdev, another construction site was fined INR 50,000 for generating excessive dust pollution, while a developer in Thaltej faced a penalty of INR 1 lakh for failing to adhere to prescribed safety norms.
Alongside regulatory action on construction activity, the civic body also undertook measures to address urban infrastructure bottlenecks linked to site mismanagement. Municipal teams cleared illegal encroachments along a 12-metre-wide service road stretching between KD Hospital and Ognaj Circle, aiming to restore traffic flow in the corridor.
The enforcement reflects the AMC's continued focus on implementing its construction practice guidelines, introduced to curb dust pollution in a city where building activity remains a significant contributor to particulate matter levels. Data from recent municipal monitoring indicates that a substantial number of active construction sites have previously been penalised for failing to comply with air pollution control measures, highlighting persistent gaps in adherence to regulations.
The latest action indicates that authorities are maintaining on-ground inspections and penal measures to ensure compliance, particularly in high-growth micro-markets such as Gota and surrounding areas, where construction activity remains concentrated. Developers operating in these zones are required to integrate dust suppression systems, protective coverings, and safe material handling practices as part of standard site management to avoid regulatory intervention.
