The budget was tabled by Standing Committee Chairman Ashok Patil before Mayor Sujata Patil, in the presence of senior civic officials and elected representatives.
The proposed budget outlines projected receipts of INR 6,704.43 crore and expenditure of INR 6,689.43 crore, resulting in a closing balance of INR 15 crore. The estimates include an opening balance of INR 1,265.83 crore for the upcoming financial year. In parallel, the revised budget estimates for 2025-26 have been placed at INR 5,830.82 crore, comprising an opening balance of INR 1,839.58 crore, total receipts of INR 3,991.24 crore, and expenditure of INR 4,564.98 crore.
The presentation was made in accordance with provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, under which the standing committee prepares the draft budget before placing it before the general body for approval. Following the presentation, the Standing Committee Chairman outlined key features of the budget, highlighting priorities for civic service delivery and infrastructure development across the city.
A general body meeting has been scheduled for early April to deliberate on the budget proposals. During this session, elected members are expected to review allocations and discuss sector-wise priorities before granting final approval. Alongside the main budget, financial estimates for the municipal transport undertaking and the tree authority were also presented.
Civic officials indicated that the budget aims to strengthen the delivery of essential services across all wards, with a focus on improving infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to public amenities. The financial plan also incorporates provisions for undertaking public utility projects intended to support the city's continued growth and urban development.
The leadership of the standing committee conveyed that the administration intends to take structured steps towards implementing projects that contribute to the development of a well-serviced and secure urban environment. Emphasis has been placed on ensuring that infrastructure and civic facilities reach residents across different parts of the city, while maintaining the city's position as a prominent urban centre within the region.
The budget exercise forms part of the annual financial planning process of the municipal corporation, which determines capital expenditure, operational spending, and project prioritisation for the upcoming year. The outcome of the general body discussions will finalise the allocations and guide implementation across departments for FY27.
