During the review, district administrations and executing agencies shared details of the towers that have been completed and those still under construction. The meeting also examined whether essential civic infrastructure required for residential use has been installed at the sites.
Authorities assessed the status of facilities such as drinking water supply, electricity connections, internal roads, drainage systems and sewage treatment plants. These services are considered necessary before the flats are fully occupied by migrant employees and their families.
Officials also informed that construction work on the remaining housing units is continuing in several districts. Around 680 additional flats are expected to be completed by April 2026, which will take the project significantly closer to its total target of 6,000 units.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner instructed officials to ensure that pending construction and infrastructure work is completed within the set timelines. District deputy commissioners were directed to conduct regular site visits along with executing agencies so that any operational or technical issues can be identified early and resolved quickly.
Departments involved in the project were also asked to immediately issue tenders for remaining works wherever required. This step is expected to prevent delays and help speed up the completion of the remaining flats.
The transit accommodation initiative is part of a broader rehabilitation effort for Kashmiri migrants who left the Valley during the insurgency period of the early 1990s. Over the past several years, the central government has implemented employment and housing schemes to facilitate their return and provide safe living conditions for those posted in government jobs in the region.
