Synopsis

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised the FASTag Annual Pass fee to INR 3,075 for the financial year 2026-27, increasing the charge by INR 75 from the current INR 3,000. The revised rate will come into effect from April 1 and applies to eligible non-commercial vehicles using national highways and expressways. Introduced in August 2025, the annual pass allows private vehicle owners to make toll payments through a one-time annual fee covering either one year of usage or up to 200 toll plaza crossings. The facility is currently available across approximately 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and national expressways and has been adopted by more than 56 lakh users. The revision has been implemented in accordance with the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the fee for its FASTag Annual Pass to INR 3,075 for the financial year 2026-27, raising the charge by INR 75 from the current annual fee of INR 3,000. The revised rate will come into effect from April 1 and will apply to eligible non-commercial vehicles using the annual pass facility across national highways and expressways.

NHAI stated that the revision has been implemented in accordance with the provisions of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, which govern toll fee structures across the country's national highway network.

The FASTag Annual Pass facility was introduced in August 2025 as part of efforts to provide financial relief to frequent highway users, particularly private vehicle owners who regularly travel across toll plazas on national highways.

Under the scheme, vehicle owners can make a one-time payment for an annual pass that remains valid either for a period of one year or for up to 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever limit is reached earlier. The pass eliminates the need for frequent FASTag recharges for users who regularly travel through multiple toll points.

The facility is currently available across approximately 1,150 fee plazas located on national highways and national expressways. NHAI indicated that the annual pass programme has seen increasing adoption since its introduction.

According to the authority, more than 56 lakh users have already opted for the FASTag Annual Pass, reflecting growing acceptance of the scheme among private vehicle owners.

The pass can be activated through a digital process linked to the vehicle's existing FASTag account. After payment of the one-time fee through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application or the official website of the National Highways Authority of India, the annual pass becomes active on the registered FASTag within approximately two hours.

The system is designed to simplify toll payments for regular highway commuters by integrating the annual pass with the existing FASTag infrastructure used across the national highway network.

FASTag is a radio-frequency identification (RFID) based passive tag that enables electronic toll collection. The tag is affixed to the windscreen of a vehicle and allows toll charges to be deducted automatically from the user's linked prepaid wallet, savings account or current account when the vehicle passes through a toll plaza equipped with electronic toll collection systems.

The electronic toll collection system has been implemented widely across the national highway network to reduce congestion at toll plazas and enable faster vehicle movement.

Through the annual pass facility, NHAI aims to further streamline toll payments and improve convenience for private vehicle owners who regularly use national highways and expressways. The revision in the annual fee reflects the routine adjustment of toll-related charges under the applicable regulatory framework governing the national highway system.
