Pan IIT Alumni India has welcomed the interim India-US trade framework, stating that it could significantly accelerate India's push in semiconductors, data centres and advanced technology manufacturing. The alumni body said the framework, read alongside the Union Budget, reflects a clear strategic alignment between global technology partnerships and domestic capacity-building. According to Pan IIT Alumni India, improved access to advanced components and closer cooperation with the United States come at a critical juncture as India expands semiconductor fabrication, packaging and design under its incentive programmes. It also highlighted the Budget's proposed tax holiday for foreign cloud service providers using Indian data centres as a strong signal to global investors. Together, the measures were said to strengthen supply chain resilience, support digital infrastructure expansion and enhance India's position within global technology value chains.
Pan IIT Alumni India has said that the interim trade framework between India and the United States could play a meaningful role in accelerating India's ambitions in semiconductors, data centres and advanced technology manufacturing. Welcoming the joint statement issued by both countries, the alumni body noted that the framework points to deeper cooperation in critical and emerging technologies at a time when India is actively scaling up its manufacturing and digital infrastructure base.
According to Pan IIT Alumni India, the framework gains added significance when viewed alongside the Union Budget, which it said provides complementary domestic policy support. The combination of global technology collaboration and internal capacity-building was described as a strong signal of strategic alignment. The alumni body observed that India is simultaneously strengthening its domestic ecosystem while positioning itself as a more integrated participant in global technology supply chains.
It noted that improved access to advanced components and technologies is particularly important as India pushes ahead with semiconductor fabrication, packaging and design under its manufacturing incentive programmes. Pan IIT Alumni India pointed out that semiconductors underpin a wide range of sectors, including data centres, telecom networks, electric vehicles and defence systems, making supply chain resilience a critical priority.
The alumni body also drew attention to measures announced in the Union Budget aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure. In particular, it highlighted the proposed tax holiday extending until 2047 for foreign cloud service providers using Indian data centre infrastructure. This, it said, could help attract long-term global investments and reinforce India's role as a competitive destination for hyperscale and enterprise data centre development.
Pan IIT Alumni India further stated that startups and MSMEs stand to benefit from smoother cross-border collaboration, improved access to capital and deeper integration into global value chains. It added that India's extensive base of IIT alumni working across US technology firms, research institutions and venture capital funds could help facilitate partnerships, technology transfer and market access.
From a broader perspective, the alumni body said the trade framework strengthens India's positioning as a reliable manufacturing and innovation partner under the evolving China+1 strategy. It emphasised that its global network is well placed to help convert this policy momentum into tangible outcomes by fostering links between industry, academia and policymakers through mentoring, technology partnerships and cross-border investments.
