Wormwood Hotels, a hospitality brand with a growing focus on eastern India, has outlined plans to expand its portfolio to 10 properties by the end of 2027, involving a total capital expenditure of around INR 100 crore. Founded by Soumya Sengupta, an IHM Kolkata alumnus with over two decades of experience in hotel operations, the company currently operates five hotels with 237 keys across Bhagalpur, Puri, Varanasi and Darjeeling. The group aims to add around 200 additional keys as part of its next phase of growth. Projects at Santiniketan and Siliguri are under construction, while land has been acquired in the Sunderbans. The company is also exploring opportunities in Kolkata, reinforcing its regionally anchored expansion strategy.
Wormwood Hotels earlier this week said it plans to scale its portfolio to 10 operational properties by the end of 2027, with an estimated capital outlay of around INR 100 crore. The hospitality brand, founded by Soumya Sengupta, began operations with its first property in Bhagalpur, Bihar, and expanded to five hotels within its first year of operations. Advertisement
At present, the group operates 237 keys across properties in Puri, Varanasi and Darjeeling, in addition to Bhagalpur. Sengupta said the company plans to add approximately 200 keys as it expands further. Hotels at Santiniketan and Siliguri are currently under construction, while land has already been acquired in the Sunderbans, where development will be taken up at a later stage.
The company has invested around INR 40 crore so far, with all existing hotels operating under a lease model. Capital for current properties has been provided by Synergy Infra, while Sengupta retains ownership of the Wormwood brand and manages the hotels under management contracts. The group is also scouting for a property in Kolkata and is targeting an initial public offering after at least 10 hotels become operational.
