Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Noida International Airport in Jewar next month, according to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The airport, being developed under a public-private partnership model, is nearing completion after earlier delays. The first phase spans over 1,300 hectares and will handle 12 million passengers annually. The state government has allocated INR 750 crore for the project in the latest budget. Once operational, the airport is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and reduce congestion at Delhi's existing airport.
The Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared this update during an interaction with members of the Indian community abroad, stating that the airport is approaching operational readiness and will become the largest airport in India once fully developed.
The project has faced multiple timeline revisions over the past few years. Initially targeted for earlier completion, the launch was deferred due to construction and regulatory processes. With most major works now nearing completion, preparations for inauguration are underway.
Being developed under a public-private partnership model, the airport is being constructed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. The project is spread across more than 1,334 hectares in its first phase. This phase includes one runway and a modern passenger terminal designed to handle 12 million passengers annually. Cargo facilities and supporting infrastructure are also part of the initial development.
In the state budget presented recently, the Uttar Pradesh government allocated INR 750 crore for the airport's development. The allocation forms part of a broader civil aviation push aimed at strengthening connectivity across the state. Uttar Pradesh has been expanding its airport network in recent years under the regional connectivity scheme, and Jewar is positioned as a key long-term aviation hub.
Technical progress has also moved forward. A mandatory calibration flight was successfully conducted by the Airports Authority of India in the past year, which is a crucial step before commercial operations begin. Regulatory clearances and operational approvals are being aligned to ensure readiness for flight services soon after inauguration.
The airport is strategically located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district and is expected to serve the National Capital Region. Once operational, it is likely to reduce traffic pressure on Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and provide an additional gateway for both domestic and international travel. Future phases of development include plans for additional runways and expanded passenger capacity, which could significantly increase handling capacity over time.
