Synopsis

The Union Cabinet has approved an 11.56-kilometre extension of the Noida Metro Aqua Line from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden, strengthening metro connectivity between Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi. The elevated corridor will add eight new stations and enable a direct interchange with Delhi Metro's Blue and Magenta Lines. The project involves an estimated investment of INR 2,254 crore and will expand the operational Noida Metro network to over 61 km. Once completed, the extension is expected to reduce travel time, ease road congestion and improve daily commuting efficiency.

The central government has granted approval for extending the Aqua Line of the Noida Metro by 11.56 kilometres, connecting Sector 142 directly to the Botanical Garden interchange station in Delhi. The project had earlier received approval from the Uttar Pradesh government and was reviewed based on the Detailed Project Report prepared by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation.

The approved corridor will be fully elevated and include eight stations along the route. These stations will serve key residential, institutional and commercial sectors located along the Noida Greater Noida Expressway, improving access to areas that currently depend heavily on road-based transport.

A key feature of the extension is its integration with the Delhi Metro network at the Botanical Garden station. This will allow seamless interchange with the Blue Line and Magenta Line, removing the need for long surface transfers and making cross-city travel more efficient for daily commuters travelling between Noida, Greater Noida and central parts of Delhi.

The total cost of the project has been estimated at INR 2,254 crore. Once the extension becomes operational, the total length of the Noida Metro network will increase to approximately 61.62 kilometres. Officials indicated that the corridor will help reduce pressure on arterial roads, especially during peak hours, while offering a faster and more reliable public transport option.

Travel time on this stretch, which currently takes up to 45 minutes by road during heavy traffic, is expected to come down significantly once metro services begin. Construction work is expected to start after completion of procedural formalities, with the project targeted for completion in around four years, subject to execution timelines.
