Western Railway has completed extensive improvement works on Line 3 at Vadodara Railway Station to improve safety, punctuality, and passenger movement. The project included extending platform number 3 by 50 metres, laying a 400 metre water hydrant pipeline, constructing a 300 metre central drain, and repairing a 380 metre existing drain to tackle long-standing waterlogging. Track strengthening over 790 metres involved deep screening, ballast restoration, sleeper replacement, and track geometry correction for speeds up to 30 km/h. These upgrades are expected to enhance operational efficiency and convenience for passengers at the busy station.
Western Railway has finished major infrastructure improvements on Line 3 at Vadodara Railway Station aimed at improving train operations, safety, and passenger convenience. Persistent waterlogging on this line had previously caused unhygienic conditions, frequent track circuit failures, and damage to sleepers, affecting train operations and raising safety concerns. The Vadodara Division's engineering team carried out the work efficiently using an engineering block over 25 days.
Platform number 3 was extended by 50 metres to manage passenger flow better and accommodate longer trains. To address drainage issues, a new 400 metre water hydrant pipeline was laid, and a 300 metre central drain was constructed between Lines 3 and 4. The existing 380 metre drain was also repaired and fitted with cover screens to ensure effective removal of surface and subsurface water.
Track strengthening was completed over 790 metres, including deep screening to restore the ballast cushion, improve drainage, and remove fouled ballast. Damaged and defective sleepers were replaced, enhancing track stability. Track geometry, including alignment, cant, gauge, and curves, was corrected to allow safe train operations at speeds of up to 30 km/h, improving riding quality and operational reliability.
According to Anubhav Saxena, public relations officer of the Vadodara Division, these upgrades are expected to significantly improve train punctuality, operational safety, and passenger convenience. The work also complements broader safety initiatives by Western Railway, which has been implementing advanced technology like the Kavach Automatic Train Protection system and other infrastructure upgrades to strengthen overall network reliability.
These improvements, while focused on a single line, contribute to reducing disruptions, ensuring safer operations, and enhancing passenger confidence in the station's facilities. By tackling long-standing waterlogging and reinforcing track structure, Western Railway has strengthened both the day-to-day functioning and long-term resilience of this busy rail hub.
