The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) intensified its property tax collection efforts in the last one and a half months of the fiscal year, raising INR 30 crore. This helped the civic body exceed its earlier annual target of INR 275 crore, with total collections reaching around INR 295 crore. Over 410 notices were issued to defaulters, and 55 properties were sealed for non-payment. Officials are now focusing on commercial activities in residential zones to increase compliance. The drive highlights MCG's efforts to strengthen revenue collection and enforce tax discipline.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram accelerated its property tax recovery as the fiscal year approached its end, generating INR 30 crore in about 45 days. This push helped the civic body surpass its annual property tax target of INR 275 crore, with total collections reaching approximately INR 295 crore by the conclusion of the drive.
To ensure compliance, more than 410 notices were issued to property tax defaulters. In addition, 55 properties with outstanding dues were sealed. Officials emphasized that these actions were taken to encourage timely payment and deter habitual defaulters. The drive also included follow-ups on previously issued notices, strengthening enforcement measures across the city.
The civic body is now concentrating on identifying commercial activities conducted in residential properties, such as guest houses and paying guest accommodations operating without proper classification. Data from online platforms and real estate listings is being cross-checked with MCG's tax records to bring unregistered properties into compliance and minimize revenue loss.
Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya noted that improving property tax collection is crucial for funding essential civic services and supporting development works. He stated that strict enforcement and regular monitoring will continue into the new fiscal year. Review meetings with zonal tax officers were held to plan further actions and enhance recovery efficiency.
MCG's approach reflects a broader trend among municipal bodies in India, which are increasingly focusing on strict tax recovery ahead of fiscal year-end deadlines. Similar measures in other cities have included issuing defaulter notices, sealing properties, and enforcing compliance in unregistered commercial units to secure municipal revenue.
