Larsen & Toubro's Heavy Civil Infrastructure unit has secured a major contract worth between INR 5,000 crore and INR 10,000 crore from the Royal Commission of Riyadh City for the Red Line extension of the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia. The project, part of an ultra-mega initiative led by a consortium including Webuild S.p.A., Nesma & Partners Contracting, Alstom, and IDOM, involves designing and constructing an 8.4 km corridor with elevated and underground sections and five stations, strengthening L&T's global presence in complex metro and mass rapid transit projects.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a major contract from the Royal Commission of Riyadh City for the extension of the Red Line of the Riyadh Metro. The order, classified as a 'major' contract under L&T's internal framework, is valued between INR 5,000 crore and INR 10,000 crore. This project is part of a larger ultra-mega development being executed by a consortium including Webuild S.p.A., Nesma & Partners Contracting, Alstom, and IDOM.
Under the contract, L&T's Heavy Civil Infrastructure business will handle the design and turnkey construction of an 8.4 kilometre corridor. The work includes both elevated and underground sections and the development of five new metro stations. The project aims to improve connectivity across Riyadh and expand the city's public transport network.
The Riyadh Metro is among the world's largest urban transit projects and is a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative, which focuses on improving public transportation infrastructure and reducing congestion. L&T highlighted that the project reinforces its track record in executing complex mass rapid transit systems internationally.
L&T has prior experience in metro and mass transit projects both in India and overseas. Its work spans underground tunnelling, elevated viaducts, station construction, and systems integration. This expertise positions L&T to manage the engineering, construction, and integration aspects of the Riyadh Metro extension effectively.
The contract also complements ongoing efforts to expand the existing Riyadh Metro network, which has progressively enhanced urban mobility in the city. The consortium's participation reflects continued investment in Riyadh's infrastructure, demonstrating confidence in global engineering collaboration for large-scale metro projects.
