Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died after the aircraft he was travelling in met with an accident near Baramati while attempting to land. The aircraft, a Learjet 45 registered as VT-SSK, had flown from Mumbai and was approaching the Baramati airstrip when it went off the runway and caught fire.

Officials said Pawar was travelling along with two pilots and members of his security team. All those on board were killed in the crash, and there were no survivors. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed the fatalities and stated that initial information suggested the aircraft lost control during the landing process.

Pawar was heading to Baramati for scheduled political engagements related to Zilla Parishad and other local body elections in the region. He had been actively involved in campaign planning and meetings in his home constituency in the period leading up to the incident.

Emergency services, including fire and rescue teams, reached the site shortly after the crash and secured the area around the runway. Visuals from the location showed the aircraft badly damaged, with debris scattered across the site and clear signs of fire.

Aviation authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to establish whether technical issues, operational factors or other conditions contributed to the accident. Officials said the probe would include examination of flight data and physical evidence from the site.

Ajit Pawar was among Maharashtra?s most experienced political leaders, having served multiple terms as deputy chief minister and handled key administrative portfolios in previous governments. He was known for his strong influence in western Maharashtra, particularly Baramati, where he represented the constituency for decades.
