Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah visited Assam earlier this week to inaugurate a series of infrastructure projects valued at around INR 900 crore, covering cultural heritage, policing facilities, and urban security systems. The projects include the redevelopment of Batadrava Than in Nagaon district, a new police commissionerate building, an integrated surveillance network for Guwahati, and a large cultural auditorium. State leaders said the initiatives aim to strengthen public safety, preserve Assam's cultural legacy, and support long-term urban and regional development.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah visited Assam earlier this week to inaugurate multiple infrastructure projects worth approximately INR 900 crore, spanning cultural redevelopment, urban policing, and security systems across key locations in the state.
He was received in Guwahati by Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, and senior state officials. The visit formed part of a broader push to strengthen Assam's institutional and civic infrastructure while highlighting its cultural significance.
Shah travelled to Borduwa in Nagaon district, where he inaugurated the redevelopment of Batadrava Than, a major Vaishnavite religious site associated with Srimanta Sankardeva. The project, executed at a cost of about INR 227 crore, includes upgraded visitor facilities and improved site access. During the event, Shah referred to the historical importance of the site and supported the state government's actions against encroachment, stating that the administration was committed to protecting culturally significant land.
In Guwahati, Shah inaugurated the Swahid Smarak Kshetra, a memorial dedicated to the martyrs of the Assam movement against illegal infiltration. The memorial is intended to preserve the memory of those who participated in the movement and to serve as a public space reflecting the state's recent history.
Urban security and policing infrastructure formed a major portion of the inaugurated projects. Shah opened the new Guwahati Police Commissionerate building, constructed at a cost of around INR 111 crore. The facility is expected to improve coordination, administrative efficiency, and operational capacity for city policing.
He also launched the Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS) for Guwahati, developed at an estimated cost of INR 189 crore. The system integrates feeds from more than 2,000 CCTV cameras and connects emergency response services, traffic management, and disaster response functions. Officials said the ICCS is aimed at improving real-time monitoring and faster response to incidents across the city.
Another key inauguration was the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex in Guwahati, built at a cost of around INR 291 crore. The auditorium has a seating capacity of nearly 5,000 and is designed to host cultural performances, public events, and large gatherings, adding to the city's cultural infrastructure.
Shah also addressed a public gathering in Nagaon district, where he spoke on governance, cultural identity, and security measures. Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and state officials attended the events held during the visit.
