The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to bid out 124 highway and expressway projects valued at INR 3.4 lakh crore in FY26. This initiative aims to address a slowdown in awards and build developer confidence. Nearly 78% of these projects will be offered under a Public-Private Partnership model, with the rest government-funded. Notable projects include the Gorakhpur-Kishangan-Siliguri highway and the Patna-Purnea stretch. Telangana Chief Minister Shri A Revanth Reddy held discussions with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal, pressing for the immediate release of INR 596.61 crore approved by NICDIT for the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City project. Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis directed authorities to fast-track the implementation of approved power infrastructure projects in Nagpur and Amravati, citing a surge in electricity demand fuelled by industrial, commercial, and real estate growth. Chairing a high-level meeting, he stated that INR 713 crore would be required for Nagpur and INR 242 crore for Amravati, while also instructing officials to plan future capacity based on population projections for 2035. The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) will lead a INR 45 crore project to conserve and restore key Gandhian heritage sites in Wardha, Maharashtra, including Gandhi Smriti Bhavan, Kasturba Kitchen, and Wardha Haat. This initiative, in collaboration with MGIRI, aims to preserve architectural, historical, and cultural significance, promoting rural development and public engagement. The Meghalaya government has sought financial backing of INR 2,270 crore from the Union Ministry of Power to fund critical power transmission projects, as confirmed by state Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal during the 16th National Power Committee meeting. The proposed plan, already approved by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), aims to increase transmission capacity by 760 MVA and extend the network by 190 circuit kilometres. JSW Infrastructure has secured a letter of award from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority for a port development project worth INR 740 crore at Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata. The project entails reconstructing berth 8 and mechanising berth 7 under a 30-year DBFOT concession within the PPP framework. With a two-year construction schedule, JSW Infrastructure will also commence operations during the build phase. The project will expand the company's container handling capacity, aligning with its broader strategy to strengthen presence on both eastern and western coastlines through the government's port privatisation scheme.Read more

Mumbai's domestic hazardous waste collection initiative has seen nearly 2,000 establishments register, including housing societies and beauty parlours, covering about 4.5 lakh citizens. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) transports an average of 1.7 tonnes of waste daily to six plasma incineration facilities. This initiative aims for safe disposal of items like diapers and medicines, which can contaminate other waste. Despite generating 80-100 tonnes daily, the current collection is a fraction. The BMC plans more efforts to boost participation and manage all waste categories.Read more

The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has initiated land pooling for the 19.60 km Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor. This infrastructure project, estimated to cost over INR 2,400 crore, aims to boost industrial growth and connectivity between Indore, Pithampur, and the airport. Farmers will receive 60% developed land as compensation, an increase from the usual 50%. The corridor, 75 meters wide, will feature commercial, industrial, and residential activities along its sides.
