Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis directed authorities to fast-track the implementation of approved power infrastructure projects in Nagpur and Amravati, citing a surge in electricity demand fuelled by industrial, commercial, and real estate growth. Chairing a high-level meeting, he stated that INR 713 crore would be required for Nagpur and INR 242 crore for Amravati, while also instructing officials to plan future capacity based on population projections for 2035. The CM, who also holds the energy portfolio, emphasised preventive measures and the importance of completing existing projects swiftly.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office confirmed that a total investment of INR 713 crore has been identified for the power sector in Nagpur district, while INR 242 crore has been earmarked for Amravati. Fadnavis advised that corresponding budgetary allocations should be arranged to ensure uninterrupted progress.
Highlighting the need for proactive planning, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to prepare a comprehensive energy infrastructure plan keeping in mind projected population figures for 2035. He further underscored the urgency of this work, particularly in Nagpur district-his political bastion-where ongoing infrastructure investments are contributing to a steep rise in electricity consumption.
Fadnavis insisted that all currently funded projects in Nagpur and Amravati must be completed without delay. He noted that several upcoming projects are also in the pipeline and emphasised that the energy department must act decisively to ensure their timely implementation.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the importance of protecting underground electrical infrastructure, noting that various agencies often cause damage to cables during unrelated construction works. He proposed the use of secure cable ducts to mitigate such risks, particularly in power distribution systems affected by new projects.
He also called for prioritising several key initiatives including on-demand solar agricultural pump schemes, the augmentation of transformer capacity, and the construction of new power plants and substations to improve energy accessibility and reliability in both districts.
The push for early completion of power projects and forward-looking planning based on 2035 population estimates signals a shift from reactive to anticipatory governance in Maharashtra's energy sector. With Nagpur and Amravati emerging as regional hubs, ensuring robust and uninterrupted power supply will be crucial not only for local industry but also for future urbanisation.
