The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) held a key meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, where several important decisions were made regarding housing schemes and community facilities. These initiatives aim to provide better housing options and enhance the quality of life for residents in Delhi.


One of the highlights of the meeting was the introduction of the Sasta Ghar Housing Scheme 2024. This scheme is targeted at the low-income group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS), offering around 34,000 flats at affordable rates in various locations, including Ramgarh Colony, Siraspur, Loknayakpuram, Rohini, and Narela. The starting price for these flats is approximately INR 11.5 lakh, making homeownership more accessible to families in need. In addition to this, the General Housing Scheme 2024 was announced, which will provide diverse flat categories for high-income, medium-income, low-income, and EWS residents at prevailing prices without any hikes.

Additionally, the Dwarka Housing Scheme 2024 will allow for a limited number of higher-category flats via an e-auction process. This is a unique opportunity for buyers looking to invest in the upscale Dwarka region, with about 173 flats being put up for auction. The DDA also approved an amnesty scheme that offers the renewal and conversion of expired term leases on certain properties.

In a significant move aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability, the DDA approved changes in land use for a plot in Bawana to be repurposed as recreational space. This area will provide green spaces, benefiting the local community. The DDA also greenlit a bio-methanisation plant at Ghazipur, which is expected to reduce landfill waste and improve air quality in Delhi.

To improve community engagement, a new policy for managing and using community halls was introduced. This policy simplifies the rental process and expands usage options for these multipurpose halls, making it easier for local residents to book spaces for events. The DDA has structured the policy in three stages, aiming to create a user-friendly experience for community members.

Moreover, the DDA has established a price structure for standalone garages and parking spaces. This decision aims to facilitate organized parking in local areas, helping residents secure parking spots while easing congestion on the streets.

In response to ongoing construction delays in the city, the DDA has extended the deadline for completing various construction projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional plots, until December 31, 2025. This extension is a final opportunity for property allottees to fulfill their construction obligations, subject to certain fees.

To further support families living in slum clusters, the DDA has approved the relocation of eligible households from the Keli Bari area to economically viable flats in Narela. This initiative is part of the broader effort to improve housing conditions within the city's less privileged areas.

Lastly, the DDA has announced an increase in land rates for commercial and industrial properties, reflecting a 10% increase for the upcoming financial year. This adjustment will influence prices for conversions from leasehold to freehold and will impact misuse charges as well.

These initiatives reflect the DDA's commitment to enhance living conditions and infrastructure in Delhi, particularly for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The new housing schemes and community policies are expected to make a significant difference in the lives of many residents across the capital.
