The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) missed its property tax target for the third consecutive fiscal year, this time by 16%. The civic body earned 1,681.72 crores until March 31, falling short of the 2,000-crore target. It did, however, earn 67.72 crores on the last day of the fiscal year 2022-23. Overall property tax collection was 10% higher than the previous year. The municipal government has assessed 13.53 lakh properties in the city, 7% more than in 2021-22.

The self-assessment option aided in increasing tax collection in the fiscal year 2022-23, as 57.13% of property owners used the digital method. In terms of fund collection, bill collectors collected 790 crores from over three lakh property tax identification numbers for the GHMC. 1.31 lakh property owners paid through MeeSeva centres, with the remainder paying at Citizen Service Centres.
Serilingampally Circle contributed the most to tax collection with 245 crores, followed by Jubilee Hills with 200 crores and Khairatabad with 181 crores, according to data. Charminar zone has the lowest performance, achieving 71.43% of its target, followed by Khairatabad (74.46%), Secunderabad (79.67%), Serilingampally (88.7%), Kukatpally (95.65%), and LB Nagar (98.8%).
The Hyderabad civic authority adopted several methods to ensure individuals pay their tax on time. Tax defaulters were targeted by officials in March, with red notices issued to them. These actions resulted in them exceeding their target collections by more than 80%.
