Under the proposed scheme, residents who opt for eco-friendly practices, such as cultivating lush rooftop gardens, installing solar panels for energy generation, and implementing rainwater harvesting through underground tanks, stand to receive a notable 10% rebate in their annual property tax. The AMC's forward-thinking approach seeks to create a harmonious blend of sustainable living and financial incentives for homeowners.
Scheduled for discussion during the imminent standing committee meeting later this month, the GBY Roof scheme addresses key facets of conservation and efficiency. Notably, it emphasizes water conservation through rainwater harvesting, promotes the adoption of green energy via solar roof panels, and underscores the potential reduction in air conditioning reliance by fostering cooler indoor temperatures through strategically designed terrace gardens—particularly pertinent during the sweltering summer months.
While the proposed scheme outlines commendable goals, sources have pointed out that the installation of solar systems and the incorporation of underground rainwater harvesting tanks are mandatory as per the state government's General Development Control Regulations (GDCR) guidelines.
