The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has announced a rebate on property tax for the current financial year to encourage timely payments. Residential property owners can avail a 20% rebate, while commercial properties are eligible for a 10% discount if dues are cleared by May 31. The civic body has also outlined deadlines for offline payment modes and warned of penalties after the due date. Property tax continues to be a key revenue stream, supporting essential civic services and infrastructure development across the city.
The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has rolled out a rebate scheme on property tax payments for the ongoing financial year, aimed at improving early collections and encouraging compliance among property owners. The benefit is available for both residential and commercial properties, with different rebate rates applicable to each category.
Under the scheme, residential property owners are eligible for a 20% rebate on their tax amount, while commercial properties can avail a 10% rebate if payments are made on or before May 31. The concession is applicable only if the full tax amount is cleared within the stipulated timeline. Any pending dues from previous years must also be settled to avail of the rebate.
Officials have clarified that property owners who fail to pay within the deadline will be required to pay additional charges in the form of interest and penalties on outstanding amounts. This is in line with the corporation’s standard enforcement mechanism to ensure timely tax collection.
The civic body has also specified that payments made through cheque or demand draft will be accepted only up to May 26, while online and other digital payment options will remain available until May 31. Taxpayers have been advised to avoid last-minute transactions to ensure successful processing and avoid technical delays.
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar urged residents and commercial establishments to make use of the rebate window and complete their payments early. He indicated that timely tax collection helps the administration maintain steady cash flow and supports planned expenditure on civic infrastructure.
Property owners have been encouraged to verify their tax assessments, outstanding dues and applicable charges through the official e-Sampark portal before making payments. The corporation has streamlined its digital systems in recent years to make tax payments more accessible and transparent for citizens.
Property tax remains one of the primary revenue sources for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, funding essential services such as sanitation, road maintenance, street lighting, water supply and other urban infrastructure works. In previous financial cycles, similar rebate schemes have helped the corporation secure a significant share of its annual revenue target in the early months, improving financial planning and execution of projects.
The administration continues to rely on such early payment incentives to strengthen revenue collection efficiency while reducing the burden of enforcement later in the year.
