Synopsis

The Himachal Pradesh government has launched development projects worth over INR 153 crore in Fatehpur, Kangra district, focusing on connectivity, public infrastructure and utilities. The package includes an INR 103.65 crore bridge over the Beas river, multiple road upgrades and administrative buildings. Additional works cover power infrastructure and public facilities aimed at improving service delivery across the region. The projects are part of a broader push to strengthen rural connectivity and support local economic activity. Alongside the launched works, the government has also announced further investments in tourism infrastructure and power systems, indicating continued public capital expenditure in the region.

The Himachal Pradesh government has launched eight development projects worth over INR 153 crore in Fatehpur, Kangra district, aimed at improving connectivity, public infrastructure and service delivery across the region.

The projects were unveiled earlier this week by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during a visit to the constituency, where he carried out inaugurations and foundation-laying ceremonies across multiple infrastructure assets.

A key component of the package is the construction of an 800-metre bridge over the Beas river, with an estimated cost of INR 103.65 crore. The bridge is designed to connect Terrace on the Pong Dam–Jassur road with Sthana on the Bharwain–Damtal road, improving connectivity between the Fatehpur and Jaswan-Pragpur assembly constituencies.

In addition to the bridge, the government inaugurated a combined office building at Fatehpur developed at INR 12.82 crore, along with multiple road infrastructure projects. These include a road from Kodi Bela to Paral via Jatt Beli built at INR 5.27 crore, and another connecting Palakh to Charuri and Malhari to Duhag constructed at INR 5.89 crore.

The programme also includes power infrastructure upgrades. Foundation stones were laid for electrical division and sub-division office buildings, along with augmentation of a 33 KV substation at Jawalamukhi. These works, estimated at around INR 4 crore, are expected to benefit more than 35,000 consumers by improving power supply reliability.

Additional announcements were made alongside the project launch. The state government indicated that a new electrical sub-division at Dehriyan in Jawalamukhi would be developed at a cost of INR 10 crore to address voltage fluctuations and strengthen power infrastructure in the region.

The Chief Minister also outlined plans for tourism-linked infrastructure, stating that around INR 150 crore would be allocated for the development and beautification of religious destinations such as Jwalamukhi and Naina Devi. An initial instalment of INR 25 crore has been earmarked under this programme.

The set of projects reflects a focus on improving last-mile connectivity and public infrastructure in semi-urban and rural areas, where road and utility upgrades play a critical role in economic activity and accessibility.

The combination of transport, administrative and power infrastructure investments indicates a coordinated approach to regional development, with emphasis on both physical connectivity and service delivery systems.

These initiatives are expected to support local mobility, improve access to public services and strengthen infrastructure capacity in the Kangra district, aligning with the state’s broader development priorities in transport, energy and tourism-linked infrastructure.
