Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has signed a 20-key greenfield Taj Safaris lodge in Satpura, Madhya Pradesh, as part of its expansion in the wildlife and eco-tourism segment. The project, being developed in partnership with Sarvapratham Hospitality, will strengthen IHCL's presence in the state, where it already operates lodges in Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna. With this addition, IHCL's Taj Safaris portfolio in Madhya Pradesh will increase to five properties, including one under development. The move reflects continued growth in experiential tourism and increasing investor interest in nature-based hospitality assets across India's protected forest regions.

The project will be developed in partnership with Sarvapratham Hospitality and will operate under the Taj Safaris brand, which focuses on premium wildlife lodges located within or near national parks and forest reserves. The addition of the Satpura property will increase IHCL's Taj Safaris portfolio in Madhya Pradesh to five lodges, including one currently under development.
IHCL indicated that the signing reflects growing demand for nature-based travel experiences in India, with wildlife tourism emerging as a key segment within the hospitality sector. The company already operates lodges in Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a central hub within its wildlife tourism strategy.
Suma Venkatesh, executive vice president for real estate and development at IHCL, stated that India offers significant opportunities in the eco-tourism segment and that the Satpura project aligns with the company's strategy of expanding into experiential travel destinations. She added that the partnership with Sarvapratham Hospitality is expected to support development of the project within the region's ecological framework.
Greenfield developments in wildlife regions typically involve low-density construction and are subject to environmental regulations governing land use, construction activity, and tourism infrastructure near protected areas. Projects such as the Satpura lodge are designed to cater to high-value, low-volume tourism, with an emphasis on sustainability and conservation-linked experiences.
The expansion of branded hospitality in wildlife destinations reflects broader trends in the tourism sector, where demand for curated, experience-led travel has increased, particularly among domestic travellers. Operators are
increasingly focusing on destinations that offer proximity to natural ecosystems while maintaining controlled development footprints.
Madhya Pradesh, with its network of national parks and tiger reserves, continues to attract investments in the hospitality segment due to its established tourism circuits and accessibility from major urban centres. The addition of the Satpura lodge is expected to complement existing offerings within the state's wildlife tourism network.
For IHCL, the project represents a continuation of its strategy to diversify its portfolio across business, leisure, and experiential segments. By expanding its presence in eco-tourism locations, the company is aligning with evolving travel preferences while strengthening its footprint in regions where organised hospitality supply remains limited.
The signing also highlights the role of partnerships in enabling hospitality development in specialised segments, where local expertise and regulatory compliance play a significant role in project execution and long-term operations.
