The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has received over 1,500 applications for the remaining flats under its Atal Apartment Scheme, with the allotment draw scheduled for mid-April, as the authority moves forward with distribution of 179 units in Ludhiana, Punjab, amid renewed buyer interest driven by visible construction progress.


The available inventory comprises 179 flats, including 136 units under the middle-income group (MIG) category and 43 units in the high-income group (HIG) segment. The trust has received approximately 1,539 applications, of which 973 are for MIG flats and 566 for HIG units, indicating a strong response across both categories.

Officials have published the list of applicants and have sought additional documentation from certain applicants to complete verification ahead of the draw process. The allotment will be carried out through a lottery system, a standard mechanism used by the trust for distributing residential units under such schemes.

The Atal Apartment Scheme is being developed at Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road, a location that has seen increasing residential activity in recent years. The project is part of an 8.80-acre development and includes multi-storeyed flats targeted at both middle- and higher-income households.

According to LIT officials, the response to the current round of applications has improved compared to earlier phases, when the project faced uncertainty and limited buyer participation. The chairman of the trust indicated that the visible pace of construction has helped restore confidence among prospective buyers, alongside pricing that remains lower than comparable private housing developments in the same corridor.

The project, which was relaunched after earlier delays, is expected to be completed within the current year, with possession targeted towards the end of the year, subject to construction progress. Officials acknowledged that external factors such as labour shortages and seasonal disruptions could affect timelines, although efforts are being made to adhere to the revised schedule.

The Atal Apartment Scheme has a prolonged development history, having been initially conceptualised over a decade ago and subsequently relaunched multiple times due to administrative and execution challenges. Construction activity gained momentum only in recent years, making the current phase critical for the project's completion and delivery.

As LIT's only active residential project at present, the scheme holds significance for the trust's ongoing operations and its role in providing organised housing in the city. The outcome of the upcoming draw and subsequent delivery timelines will be closely watched, particularly in the context of the agency's limited pipeline of new housing developments and its recent focus on completing existing projects.
