Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation carried out demolition action against an unauthorised structure in the Koparkhairane division after the concerned party failed to respond to statutory notices. The action followed a notice issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, served earlier this month. The partial demolition was conducted under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with supervision from senior civic officials. The enforcement drive involved municipal staff, police presence and the use of mechanised equipment. The civic body has indicated that similar enforcement actions will continue across its jurisdiction to address unauthorised constructions and ensure compliance with planning regulations.

The action was carried out in the past week against a structure located in Sector 8, Koparkhairane, registered under the name of Arvind Babaji Pote. The civic body had earlier issued a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing removal of the unauthorised construction. The notice, served earlier this month, was not complied with, prompting the municipal administration to initiate demolition proceedings.
The enforcement was conducted under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with oversight from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Kailas Gaikwad. The demolition activity was executed by the encroachment department of the civic body, with local administrative officials supervising operations on site.
Officials confirmed that the demolition was partial in nature, targeting specific portions of the unauthorised structure that were in violation of approved development norms. The civic body did not indicate any immediate plans for complete demolition but stated that action was taken in accordance with the provisions of the governing legislation.
The operation involved coordinated deployment of manpower and equipment. A team of 11 labourers was engaged for the exercise, supported by machinery including electronic hammers and a gas cutter. A pickup vehicle was also deployed to facilitate logistics. Police personnel from the municipal force were present to maintain law and order during the operation.
The Koparkhairane division administration, led by Assistant Commissioner Bharat Dhande, along with Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre and other staff, participated in the execution of the demolition drive. Officials stated that such actions are part of routine enforcement measures aimed at curbing unauthorised construction activities within municipal limits.
Civic authorities indicated that notices are issued in accordance with legal provisions, providing property owners an opportunity to comply voluntarily before enforcement measures are undertaken. In cases where compliance is not achieved, demolition action is initiated to ensure adherence to planning regulations.
The municipal corporation has stated that it will continue to intensify anti-encroachment drives across different divisions, particularly in areas witnessing unauthorised development. Such actions are intended to enforce urban planning norms and maintain regulatory discipline in construction activity.
The enforcement reflects ongoing efforts by the civic administration to address unauthorised structures, which remain a recurring challenge in rapidly urbanising regions such as Navi Mumbai, where development pressures and land-use violations require continuous monitoring and regulatory intervention.
