The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is nearing completion, with most stretches ready and phased openings expected from April. The 210-213 km access-controlled corridor, built at an estimated cost of around INR 12,000-13,000 crore, will reduce travel time between the two cities from 6-7 hours to about 2-2.5 hours. Final works such as lane markings and safety checks are underway. The project includes a key wildlife corridor through Rajaji National Park and is expected to improve connectivity, ease congestion, and support tourism and real estate growth along the route.
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is in its final stage of construction, with most sections completed and remaining work progressing quickly. Authorities are preparing to open parts of the corridor in phases starting April, which will improve road connectivity between Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The expressway stretches about 210-213 km and has been developed at an estimated cost of around INR 12,000-13,000 crore. Once fully operational, it is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from around 6-7 hours to nearly 2-2.5 hours. This will make road travel faster and more consistent, especially for regular commuters and tourists.
Construction work across major stretches, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, is largely complete. The remaining work includes installation of signboards, lane markings, lighting, and final safety inspections. Officials have indicated that trial runs have already been conducted on some sections, showing that the project is close to becoming fully operational.
The project had faced delays earlier due to land acquisition issues, shifting of utilities, and construction challenges. Timelines were revised multiple times over the past few years. However, steady progress has been made recently, bringing the expressway close to completion.
A key feature of the project is the elevated wildlife corridor passing through Rajaji National Park. This structure has been designed to allow safe movement of animals without disrupting traffic flow. Apart from this, the expressway includes several entry and exit points, underpasses, service roads, and grade separators to improve accessibility for nearby towns and villages.
The expressway will also connect with major road networks such as the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. This integration is expected to reduce congestion on existing highways and offer smoother connectivity across the region for both passenger and commercial traffic.
Improved connectivity is expected to have a direct impact on tourism, especially for travellers heading to Dehradun, Mussoorie, and nearby hill areas. At the same time, areas along the corridor in parts of NCR and western Uttar Pradesh are likely to see increased interest from real estate developers and buyers due to better accessibility.
