Officials have stated that the reported damage is related to a temporary structural element used for support and protection during construction or maintenance activities. Such jacket rings are typically installed to provide additional reinforcement or shielding to bridge piers, and they may undergo wear over time due to environmental exposure and load conditions. The damage, as assessed so far, is confined to this auxiliary component and does not extend to the primary structural elements of the bridge.
Engineering teams associated with highway authorities have indicated that the main structure, including the pillars and foundation system, remains stable and intact. Initial inspections carried out on site suggest that the bridge's core load-bearing capacity has not been compromised. These assessments have helped reassure that the issue is isolated and does not currently pose a direct threat to structural safety.
At the same time, authorities are treating the matter with caution and are moving towards a comprehensive structural audit. The purpose of this audit is to evaluate the overall condition of the bridge in detail, including both visible and underlying structural components. It will help determine whether any maintenance work, reinforcement, or corrective measures are required to ensure long-term durability and safety.
The bridge, completed in 2001, has been an important infrastructure asset for the region, facilitating both passenger movement and freight transport across the river. Given its age and continuous usage, periodic inspections and maintenance checks have remained part of routine management practices. The recent development has added to the emphasis on monitoring auxiliary components that support the main structure.
Authorities have also indicated that coordination among engineering teams and relevant departments will continue as part of ongoing evaluation efforts. Monitoring of the affected section is expected to remain in place while the structural audit process is carried out. The findings from this audit will guide future decisions related to maintenance scheduling and any necessary intervention to maintain operational safety.
