The Goa government has stopped all real estate projects by Prabhu Realtors after a water contamination issue was reported at a residential complex in Dabolim. Residents raised complaints about unsafe drinking water, with several falling ill. Authorities sealed the suspected borewell and began testing water samples. The Goa Human Rights Commission also stepped in and sought responses from concerned departments. The halt applies to all projects by the developer until further notice. The situation has raised concerns among homebuyers while investigations are underway to identify the exact cause and fix responsibility.
The Goa government has directed a complete halt on all ongoing and upcoming projects by Prabhu Realtors following a water contamination issue at a residential complex in Dabolim. The move came after multiple complaints from residents regarding the quality of drinking water and its impact on health.
The issue was reported at the Prabhu Violetta housing complex, where residents observed contamination in the water supply. Several people in the building, including children and elderly residents, reported falling ill with symptoms linked to unsafe water. This led to concerns about the safety of the internal water system within the project.
Authorities inspected the premises and identified the borewell as a possible source of contamination. As a precautionary measure, the borewell was sealed and water samples were collected from different points within the complex for detailed testing. Officials are currently examining these samples to determine the exact cause and extent of contamination.
Residents approached the Goa Human Rights Commission seeking urgent intervention. The commission took note of the complaints and issued notices to the developer and concerned government departments, asking them to respond. A hearing in the matter is scheduled for April 10, where further action may be discussed based on initial findings.
State health minister Vishwajit Rane directed that all projects undertaken by the developer be stopped until further notice. The order is not limited to the affected project and applies to all developments linked to Prabhu Realtors. The government has indicated that public health concerns are being treated as a priority in this case.
The development has created uncertainty among homebuyers associated with the builder, especially those waiting for possession in ongoing projects. The halt could lead to delays in construction timelines and project delivery. At the same time, authorities have clarified that work will remain suspended until clarity emerges from the investigation and necessary corrective steps are taken.
In recent years, Goa has seen tighter monitoring of infrastructure and environmental standards in residential developments, especially in areas witnessing rapid growth such as Dabolim and Vasco. Issues related to water supply, sewage systems, and waste management have been under closer review to avoid such situations.
