The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has reported total tax collections of about INR 267 crore for FY26, slightly exceeding its target of around INR 265 crore. The improvement came after slow collections in the initial months, which pushed the civic body to intensify recovery efforts. Measures such as strict action against defaulters, disconnection of services, and focused collection drives helped bridge the gap. Increased field monitoring and notices also supported the process. The outcome reflects better compliance and highlights the importance of sustained efforts in strengthening municipal revenues.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has achieved total tax collections of approximately INR 267 crore for the financial year, slightly surpassing its target of about INR 265 crore. The performance comes after a slow start to the year, when collections were significantly below expectations and required stronger intervention from the civic administration.
During the course of the financial year, the corporation had collected close to INR 189 crore, leaving a sizeable gap to meet its annual target. To address this, officials stepped up recovery efforts across all municipal circles. Special drives were conducted in multiple areas, with teams assigned to follow up on pending dues and ensure timely payments.
The administration also adopted stricter enforcement measures against defaulters. In several cases, water supply and underground drainage connections were disconnected to push compliance. These actions were aimed at recovering outstanding dues related to property tax, vacant land tax, and other municipal levies, which form a major part of the corporation's revenue base.
Field-level monitoring was strengthened, with officials closely tracking collections and issuing notices in areas with high pendency. The intensified approach, especially in the latter part of the financial year, helped improve recovery rates and contributed to the final collection figure crossing the target.
Compared to previous years, the corporation had set a higher revenue target, indicating a focus on improving its financial position. The steady increase in collections also reflects better compliance among taxpayers and more consistent follow-up by civic officials.
Property tax continues to remain a key source of revenue for the civic body, supporting expenditure on basic services such as water supply, sanitation, and urban infrastructure. The improved performance this year highlights the impact of combining enforcement with continuous monitoring rather than relying only on periodic drives.
