Synopsis

Haryana recorded the highest growth in State GST collections among all states in FY26, registering a 22 per cent increase compared to the national average of 6 per cent. The state's SGST revenue rose to INR 48,289 crore, supported by improved tax administration and higher economic activity. Haryana also moved up in national rankings from ninth to sixth position. The number of GST taxpayers increased by 12 per cent, reflecting a broader tax base. Reforms introduced by the GST Council and state-level initiatives have played a key role in sustaining this growth momentum.

Haryana reported a 22 per cent growth in gross State GST (post-settlement) revenue in the financial year 2025-26, the highest among all states, according to an official spokesperson. This growth significantly exceeded the national average of 6 per cent recorded during the same period.

The state's gross SGST collection increased to INR 48,289 crore in FY26, registering a rise of INR 8,546 crore compared to the previous financial year. This improvement reflects stronger compliance, better monitoring systems, and increased economic activity across sectors.

With this growth, Haryana improved its position in national SGST rankings, moving up to sixth place in FY26 from ninth in FY25. The state overtook Telangana, West Bengal, and Rajasthan in terms of SGST collections, indicating a steady rise in revenue performance.

The taxpayer base also expanded during the year. The number of registered GST taxpayers reached 6,30,818 as of April 1, 2026, marking a 12 per cent increase over the previous year. This rise points to improved formalisation of businesses and wider tax coverage.

Officials stated that the growth trend continued after GST rate rationalisation measures introduced by the GST Council in September 2025. These reforms were aimed at simplifying tax structures and improving compliance, which contributed to higher collections.

The state government also organised GST Bachat Utsav across districts to create awareness about tax benefits and encourage compliance. The initiative helped strengthen engagement between taxpayers and authorities.

In addition, the government has outlined further steps in the FY27 budget to improve the taxpayer interface and reduce tax evasion. These measures include digitisation efforts, streamlined processes, and stricter enforcement mechanisms.
