The Uttar Pradesh government's Chief Minister Rural Housing Scheme has covered over 19,000 beneficiaries across the Gorakhpur division, with more than 17,000 families already shifting into completed pucca houses. Implemented to support households excluded from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), the scheme has seen an expenditure of around INR 219 crore so far. Beneficiaries receive financial assistance of INR 1.2 lakh for house construction, along with additional support for sanitation, electricity, and LPG connections. The programme prioritises vulnerable communities and disaster-affected families across four districts in the division. Parallel progress under PMAY-G has also contributed to large-scale rural housing delivery in the region.
The Uttar Pradesh government has extended housing support to more than 19,000 rural beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Rural Housing Scheme across the Gorakhpur division in the past year, targeting families excluded from central housing programmes and expanding access to permanent housing in rural areas.
The scheme, implemented under the state administration led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has covered beneficiaries across four districts in the division, with more than 17,000 families already moving into completed pucca houses. The initiative has been designed to address gaps in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), particularly for households left out due to technical or eligibility-related constraints.
Officials indicated that the state government has spent approximately INR 219 crore on the programme so far. Each beneficiary receives financial assistance of INR 1.2 lakh for house construction. This is supplemented by an additional INR 12,000 for sanitation facilities under the Swachh Bharat Mission, along with free electricity connections through the Saubhagya scheme and LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The scheme has prioritised vulnerable sections, including families affected by natural disasters and marginalised communities such as Vantangia and Mushar groups. The targeted approach reflects the state's focus on extending housing support to sections that may not be fully covered under centrally sponsored schemes, thereby widening the scope of rural housing delivery.
Parallel to the state-led initiative, the PMAY-G programme has also recorded significant progress in the division. Nearly 1.99 lakh rural houses have been sanctioned and completed under the central scheme, indicating large-scale implementation of housing programmes across the region.
Administrative officials stated that efforts are ongoing to ensure that all eligible rural households are covered under one of the available housing schemes. The divisional administration continues to monitor implementation at the ground level, with an emphasis on timely completion and beneficiary identification.
The combined implementation of central and state housing schemes has contributed to a steady expansion of rural housing stock in eastern Uttar Pradesh. With continued allocation of financial assistance and convergence with sanitation and utility schemes, the programme reflects an integrated approach to improving housing conditions in rural areas while addressing gaps in scheme coverage.
