Avenue Supermarts Limited has opened a DMart store at Omaxe Connaught Place in Beta II, Greater Noida, expanding its presence in the National Capital Region with its largest outlet in the region. The store spans over 50,000 sq ft on a single floor and marks DMart's first entry into Greater Noida. The development, which has a total retail footprint of around 12 lakh sq ft, gains a daily-needs anchor aimed at increasing regular footfall. The addition aligns with rising demand for organised retail in emerging urban clusters, supported by residential growth and improving connectivity. It also reflects the relatively low penetration of organised retail in India, estimated at under 15%.
Avenue Supermarts Limited has commenced operations of a DMart store at Omaxe Connaught Place in Beta II, Greater Noida in recent days, marking the retailer's first outlet in the micro-market and its largest store in the National Capital Region, with a built-up area of over 50,000 sq ft on a single floor. The opening adds a daily-needs anchor to the mixed-use retail development, strengthening its positioning as a high-utility consumption centre.
The project, developed by Omaxe Ltd., comprises an overall retail footprint of approximately 12 lakh sq ft and houses a mix of brands across categories such as fashion, electronics, food and beverage, and entertainment. The addition of a large-format supermarket introduces a high-frequency retail segment, which is expected to support consistent weekday footfall alongside peak weekend activity typically driven by leisure and dining offerings.
Senior leadership at Omaxe indicated that the development strategy for Omaxe Connaught Place has been centred on creating a regularly utilised retail destination rather than one dependent on occasional visits. It was conveyed that the inclusion of a daily-needs retailer such as DMart is intended to improve the practicality of the project for the surrounding residential catchment, particularly as housing development in Greater Noida continues to expand.
Greater Noida has been witnessing steady urban growth, supported by increasing residential supply and improvements in connectivity across the National Capital Region. This has led to rising demand for organised retail formats that combine accessibility with a range of offerings. The introduction of essential retail categories within large-format developments is becoming a key factor in driving sustained consumer engagement, particularly in emerging micro-markets.
Industry data indicates that organised retail penetration in India remains below 15%, highlighting the scope for expansion, especially in peripheral urban areas where consumption patterns are evolving.
