The Centre has approved INR 81.12 crore to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Rajasthan, supporting the state's push towards cleaner mobility. The plan includes setting up 591 charging stations across 262 locations in Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, and Kota, along with key highways. Implemented under the Prime Minister's e-Drive scheme, the project aims to improve accessibility, enable long-distance EV travel, and strengthen the overall ecosystem. The move is also expected to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across urban and intercity routes.
The Centre has approved a proposal by Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across urban areas and highways in the state, with a financial assistance of INR 81.12 crore, according to officials.
The plan includes the installation of 591 EV charging stations at 262 locations across four smart cities in Rajasthan and along key highway routes. This is expected to strengthen the overall EV ecosystem and address the growing demand for accessible charging facilities.
The proposal was submitted under the Prime Minister's e-Drive scheme, which focuses on promoting green energy and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles across the country. Officials indicated that the approval is an important step towards improving sustainable mobility infrastructure in the state.
City-wise deployment has been clearly outlined. Jaipur will see 112 charging stations, Ajmer will have 49, Udaipur 39, and Kota 28. In addition, 34 charging stations will be developed along national and state highways to support intercity travel. All installations will be carried out on land owned by government departments, ensuring faster execution and reduced land acquisition challenges.
Officials stated that the expansion will make EV usage more practical, especially for longer distances, by improving the availability of charging points. It is also expected to ease concerns related to range anxiety, which has been a key barrier to EV adoption.
In recent years, Rajasthan has been gradually strengthening its renewable energy base, and this initiative aligns with broader national efforts to build EV-ready infrastructure. The state has also been working on policy support for clean mobility, including incentives and infrastructure planning.
The project is expected to encourage the shift towards non-polluting vehicles, contribute to lowering carbon emissions, and support the development of a wider green energy network across Rajasthan.
