The National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Delhi Technological University (DTU) to enhance research collaboration and skill development in India's cement and construction sector. The agreement, signed in New Delhi in the past week, focuses on joint research in cement and concrete technologies, training programmes for students and professionals, and knowledge exchange between academia and industry. The partnership aims to improve technical capabilities, promote best practices, and support capacity building across the construction ecosystem. It is also aligned with the sector's increasing focus on sustainable and resilient infrastructure, as demand grows for advanced materials and construction technologies.
The National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Delhi Technological University (DTU) in recent days in New Delhi, with the objective of strengthening research collaboration, skill development, and technical capacity in India's cement and construction sector. The agreement seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and industry requirements, particularly in the development of cement and concrete technologies.
Under the terms of the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on joint research initiatives focused on cement and concrete applications, while also creating structured training programmes for students, early-career professionals, and industry stakeholders. The partnership is designed to facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise, enabling wider dissemination of best practices across the construction ecosystem.
Officials associated with the collaboration indicated that the initiative is expected to contribute to capacity building within the sector by improving access to technical training and strengthening institutional linkages between research bodies and academia. The programme will also focus on enhancing the skill base required to support evolving construction practices and materials technology.
The agreement was formalised by L. P. Singh, Director General of NCB, and Binod Doley, Registrar of DTU, in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations, including DTU's Vice-Chancellor and technical leadership teams. The signing reflects a coordinated approach to integrating academic expertise with industry-driven research priorities.
A key component of the collaboration is its emphasis on advancing sustainable and resilient infrastructure. The institutions plan to work on developing improved cement technologies and construction methodologies that respond to the sector's increasing focus on environmental performance and durability. This includes exploring innovative materials and processes that can support long-term infrastructure requirements.
The partnership comes at a time when India's construction and infrastructure sectors are witnessing sustained expansion, driven by investments in urban development, transport networks, and industrial corridors. As demand for advanced construction materials grows, there is increasing emphasis on aligning research capabilities with practical industry needs.
By integrating research, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, the NCB-DTU collaboration is positioned to support improvements in technical standards and workforce capabilities. The focus on structured engagement between academia and industry reflects a broader shift towards strengthening the knowledge base underpinning construction activity in India, particularly in areas related to material innovation and engineering practices.
