Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a semiconductor facility in Sanand, Gujarat, and launched infrastructure projects worth over INR 20,000 crore across the state. The chip plant, developed by Kaynes Technology with an investment of about INR 3,300 crore, is expected to support India's semiconductor ambitions and reduce import dependence. Key projects include the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and multiple initiatives across transport, energy, and urban sectors. The developments reflect the government's continued focus on building a domestic semiconductor ecosystem and strengthening industrial infrastructure in key growth regions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, adding momentum to India's efforts to build domestic chip production capacity. The unit, developed by Kaynes Technology with an investment of around INR 3,300 crore, has a production capacity of nearly 6.33 million chips per day. The facility has already secured export orders, indicating early demand and integration into global supply chains.
During the event, the Prime Minister stated that India is steadily moving towards becoming a reliable semiconductor supplier and highlighted that the country is building a complete ecosystem, from design to manufacturing. He indicated that this development is part of the India Semiconductor Mission, which was introduced to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen technological self-sufficiency.
In addition to the chip facility, multiple infrastructure projects worth over INR 20,000 crore were launched across Gujarat. These projects cover roads, railways, power transmission, water supply, and urban development. The combined rollout is expected to improve connectivity, support industrial expansion, and create better logistics networks across the state.
A key project among these is the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, developed at a cost of more than INR 5,100 crore. The expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Ahmedabad and the Dholera Special Investment Region, which is being developed as a major industrial and smart city hub. Improved road infrastructure is likely to support faster movement of goods and attract further investments in the region.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Samrat Samprati Museum in Gandhinagar, focused on preserving Jain heritage. He noted that a large number of historical documents and manuscripts have been collected and digitised as part of ongoing cultural preservation efforts, with over three lakh records already documented.
On the semiconductor sector, it was indicated that India's chip market is currently valued at around USD 50 billion and is projected to cross USD 100 billion by the end of the decade. The next phase of the semiconductor mission is expected to focus on scaling manufacturing capacity, encouraging global partnerships, and building a skilled workforce.
The Sanand facility is among the early operational projects under the semiconductor initiative, following recent government approvals and incentives for chip manufacturing. Policy support, including financial incentives and infrastructure development, has been aimed at attracting both domestic and global players to invest in this sector.
The developments in Gujarat also build on earlier industrial growth in the state, where Sanand has already emerged as an automobile and manufacturing hub. The addition of semiconductor manufacturing further diversifies the region's industrial base and aligns with broader national goals of boosting high-value manufacturing.
