The Secunderabad Cantonment Board has introduced a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme to help property owners clear long-pending property tax arrears while offering relief on accumulated interest. The scheme provides a 30% rebate on the interest component or INR 10,000, whichever is higher, and a full waiver where the accumulated interest is below INR 10,000. The concession applies only to the interest portion of outstanding dues, while the principal tax amount must be paid in full. The initiative, introduced under the provisions of the Cantonments Act, 2006, will remain open until 31 March 2026. Officials said the measure aims to encourage voluntary compliance, reduce long-standing tax arrears and improve revenue collection in the cantonment area while allowing property owners to regularise pending liabilities.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board has launched a one-time settlement scheme aimed at enabling property owners to clear long-standing property tax arrears while receiving partial relief on accumulated interest. The scheme was introduced earlier this month and will remain in force until 31 March 2026, offering a limited window for taxpayers to regularise outstanding dues.
Under the scheme, property owners with pending tax liabilities will be eligible for a 30% rebate on the accumulated interest component or INR 10,000, whichever is higher. In cases where the total interest payable is less than INR 10,000, the entire interest amount will be waived. The concession applies only to the interest portion of property tax arrears, and the principal tax dues must be paid in full to qualify for the benefit.
Officials clarified that the scheme is intended to encourage voluntary settlement of long-pending tax liabilities and improve compliance among property owners in the cantonment area. To avail the rebate, taxpayers must clear the entire outstanding amount, including the principal and the remaining interest after the concession. Partial payments or settlement of only the interest portion will not qualify for the scheme.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board has introduced the initiative under the provisions of the Cantonments Act, 2006, which governs civic administration in defence-controlled urban areas across the country. Officials indicated that clearing dues within the scheme period would help property owners avoid further interest accumulation and potential recovery proceedings for unpaid taxes.
Cantonment authorities said the scheme forms part of ongoing efforts to address pending tax arrears and strengthen revenue collection within the board's jurisdiction. Property tax remains one of the primary sources of revenue for cantonment boards, supporting civic services such as sanitation, street lighting and maintenance of public infrastructure.
Officials have urged property owners with outstanding dues to take advantage of the scheme within the stipulated period. By settling arrears through the OTS mechanism, taxpayers can regularise their accounts while benefiting from relief on accumulated interest, helping both residents and the cantonment administration resolve long-standing tax liabilities.
