Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has carried out a major demolition drive to remove unauthorised hutments constructed beneath high-tension electricity lines in Vashi Gaon. Acting on instructions from Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, the civic body's encroachment department cleared 213 illegal huts built on land belonging to the municipal corporation and CIDCO. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officials with support from police personnel, security staff and demolition equipment. Authorities said the structures posed serious safety risks due to their location directly beneath high-voltage transmission lines. The civic administration has stated that similar enforcement actions will continue as part of its efforts to remove unauthorised encroachments across Navi Mumbai.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive against unauthorised hutments constructed beneath high-tension electricity lines in the Vashi Gaon area.

The action was undertaken by the municipal corporation's encroachment department through the Vashi ward office, following directions issued by Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.

During the drive, authorities targeted illegal hutments located beneath high-tension power lines on plots numbered 487, 488 and 489, where encroachments had been erected on land owned by the municipal corporation and CIDCO.

Civic officials removed a total of 213 unauthorised huts during the operation. The demolition drive was carried out with the assistance of officers and staff from the encroachment department at the Vashi ward office, along with encroachment police personnel, security guards and labourers. A JCB excavator was deployed to facilitate the demolition and clearing of the structures.

Municipal authorities noted that structures built beneath high-tension electricity lines pose serious safety risks and cannot be permitted. The demolition drive forms part of the civic body's ongoing efforts to ensure public safety, prevent illegal occupation of public land and maintain planned urban development in Navi Mumbai.

Officials added that similar enforcement actions against unauthorised constructions will continue to be intensified in the future.
