Synopsis

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a property tax amnesty scheme to help defaulters settle outstanding dues before the end of the 2025-26 fiscal year. Under the scheme, property owners paying their full dues in March can avail a 90 % waiver on accumulated penalties. Around 2.12 lakh property owners owe a total of INR 1,394 crore, including INR 467 crore in penalties. The programme covers residential, commercial, industrial, and open plots. Officials have warned that after the deadline, standard penalties and enforcement actions will resume for defaulters who do not participate.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has introduced a property tax amnesty scheme to encourage defaulters to clear pending dues and improve revenue collection as the 2025-26 financial year nears completion. Defaulters who pay their outstanding property tax in full during March will be eligible for a 90% waiver on penalties accumulated so far. This offer applies to all property types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and open plots, across PCMC limits.

Municipal officials estimate that roughly 2.12 lakh property owners collectively owe INR 1,394 crore, of which about INR 467 crore is in penalties. By settling their dues under this scheme, property owners can substantially reduce the financial burden, especially on penalty charges. The corporation clarified that the amnesty applies only to the current financial year, and no automatic extension is guaranteed, though future measures may be considered if required.

Civic leaders and the mayor emphasized that strict action, including resumption of standard penalties and enforcement, will follow for defaulters who miss the March deadline. The move comes after recommendations from newly elected corporators who suggested aligning PCMC's approach with similar schemes in neighbouring Pune, where smaller penalty concessions have already been offered. Both ruling party and opposition representatives supported the initiative, highlighting the importance of recovering municipal arrears to ensure continued city services and infrastructure development.

The municipal commissioner and other officers noted that the scheme is part of a larger effort to enhance compliance and strengthen the city's fiscal position. Officials advised property owners to take advantage of the limited March window to benefit from penalty relief. They also emphasized that after the amnesty period, normal penalties and enforcement procedures will resume, ensuring fairness to taxpayers who have consistently paid their dues.

PCMC officials highlighted that the recovered revenue will be used to support ongoing civic development projects and maintenance work across the city. The initiative aims to provide relief to defaulters while maintaining a clear framework for municipal finance management. Through this approach, the corporation intends to balance revenue collection with incentives for timely payment and long-term compliance.
