The retailer recently launched its 34th store in Chennai and 71st in the state, reinforcing its focus on high-growth urban markets. The new outlet in Valasaravakkam spans 14,000 sq ft and reflects the brand's updated store format featuring dedicated sections for men, women and children. The company views Chennai as a key market for expansion due to its strong consumer base and evolving fashion demand. The expansion strategy includes both new store openings and upgrades to existing outlets to align with the new retail format.
Max Fashion is accelerating its retail expansion strategy across India, with plans to open 40-50 new stores over the next year while deepening its footprint in Tamil Nadu. The company recently strengthened its presence in Chennai with the launch of a new outlet in Valasaravakkam, marking its 34th store in the city and 71st in the state.
The newly opened store spans around 14,000 sq ft and has been designed in line with the brand's revised retail format, focusing on improved spatial layout and customer experience. The outlet includes dedicated sections for men, women and children, reflecting a more structured approach to in-store merchandising and navigation. The company indicated that this format will be replicated across upcoming stores, while select existing outlets will also be upgraded accordingly.
Management highlighted that Chennai continues to be a significant market for the brand, driven by a strong and evolving consumer base. The company noted that the city's cultural vibrancy and demand for fashion retail make it a priority location for expansion. At the state level, the retailer plans to scale its presence in Tamil Nadu to 100 stores over the next two years, indicating sustained confidence in consumption trends across both metropolitan and tier-II cities.
Max Fashion already operates across multiple cities in the state, including Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Nagercoil. The ongoing expansion reflects a broader strategy to strengthen its reach in established and emerging retail markets through a combination of new store additions and format upgrades.
From a real estate perspective, the brand's expansion plans underline continued demand for organised retail spaces across high-density urban clusters and growing cities. Large-format stores such as the Valasaravakkam outlet also highlight the importance of well-located retail developments that can accommodate evolving consumer preferences and experiential shopping formats.
As retailers continue to scale operations, leasing activity in high-street and mall locations is expected to remain steady, particularly in cities demonstrating strong consumption growth and urbanisation trends.
