HMSI's total production capacity is targeted to rise to about 8 million units by FY28.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India) announced this week that it will invest approximately INR 1,500 crore to set up a third production line at its manufacturing facility located in Tapukara in Rajasthan. The new line is expected to commence operations in 2028 and will have an annual production capacity of 6.7 lakh units.

With the addition of this line, the Tapukara plant's total capacity will increase to 2.01 million units per year. The expansion is also expected to generate employment for more than 2,000 individuals, contributing to industrial activity and employment in the region.

The company stated that the new production line will be highly flexible and capable of manufacturing commuter models of scooters and motorcycles. The investment is aimed at strengthening its production ecosystem and improving responsiveness to changing market demand. According to Tsutsumu Otani, President and CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (Tsutsumu Otani), the company is focusing on building greater resilience, operational flexibility, and long-term readiness across its supply chain. He also indicated that this expansion will help the company better serve customer demand while maintaining consistent value delivery.

In addition to the Tapukara expansion, HMSI has been steadily expanding its manufacturing footprint across India. The company currently operates four plants with a combined annual capacity of 6.25 million units. It had earlier outlined plans in May 2025 to add a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in Ahmedabad district in Gujarat, which is expected to begin operations in 2027 and is progressing as scheduled.

The Tapukara facility, which began operations in July 2011 with an initial capacity of 0.6 million units, was expanded to 1.2 million units in March 2012. Over time, with continued efficiency improvements and automation introduced since 2023, the plant's current capacity stands at 1.3 million units. The company has also indicated that ongoing enhancements in machining and production processes are expected to further increase this capacity to around 1.34 million units by FY26.

Taking into account the upcoming third line at Tapukara and other planned expansions, HMSI's overall annual production capacity is projected to rise from the current 6.25 million units to approximately 8 million units by FY28, strengthening its manufacturing base across India.
