A quarterly meeting of the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) was recently conducted at the headquarters of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority in Rayapudi to review complaints and operational issues related to ongoing development works in the capital region. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Collector and Grievance Redressal Mechanism nodal officer P. Jayashree and attended by grievance officers and member secretaries from various committees. Discussions focused on labour welfare, wage-related complaints, safety awareness for residents and students, and compliance with traffic and operational guidelines at project sites across Amaravati.
The quarterly meeting of the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) was held recently at the headquarters of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority in Rayapudi, the administrative centre of the developing capital region. The meeting was organised as part of the regular review conducted towards the close of the financial year. Deputy Collector and Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) nodal officer P. Jayashree chaired the session, which was attended by grievance officers and member secretaries representing different GRCs functioning under the authority.
During the discussions, Jayashree raised several issues linked to labour welfare and public safety at construction sites across the capital development area. She advised officials that complaints related to wage payments and the implementation of basic infrastructure for workers staying in labour camps across multiple projects should be formally registered and addressed through appropriate mechanisms. Authorities were asked to ensure that such concerns are resolved in a timely manner so that labour conditions at project sites remain compliant with regulations.
Construction activities related to road networks and reservoirs are currently underway across large parts of Amaravati as part of the capital city's infrastructure development. In view of these ongoing works, the nodal officer emphasised the need to create awareness among local residents, including school students and villagers, about safety precautions around construction zones. Officials were instructed to coordinate with local communities and ensure that people living near project sites understand the risks and necessary safety measures.
Concerns were also discussed regarding vehicle movement connected to construction works. Authorities were informed that some subcontractor vehicles were reportedly travelling at high speeds. Jayashree instructed that all lorries belonging to subcontractors engaged in capital construction projects must display clear stickers identifying the respective companies. This measure is intended to improve accountability and monitoring of vehicles operating at project locations.
In addition, she directed officials to take steps to ensure that drivers associated with project activities strictly follow traffic regulations while transporting construction materials. Monitoring systems were suggested so that violations can be identified quickly and corrective action can be taken where required.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of a code of conduct prepared for workers engaged across various development projects. The nodal officer instructed concerned departments to ensure that the guidelines are implemented effectively at all sites. Officials were told to monitor compliance closely and take necessary steps to safeguard both worker welfare and public safety in villages located around the capital development zone.
The grievance redressal framework under the capital development authority is intended to address complaints from workers, contractors, and local communities affected by large-scale infrastructure activity in the region. Regular GRC meetings are conducted to review grievances, track resolutions, and ensure that development works proceed without affecting safety and labour standards.
