Eco Hotels and Resorts Limited (BSE: 514402) has launched a new hotel in Ayodhya, expanding its presence in India's rapidly growing religious tourism sector. The property, located about 5 km from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, includes 33 guest rooms along with a rooftop restaurant, landscaped lawn and swimming pool. The development comes amid a sharp rise in visitor numbers to the temple city, which recorded around 57.5 million tourists in 2023, rising to more than 160 million in 2024, with over 230 million devotees visiting in the first half of 2025. The hospitality company said the project is intended to address the increasing demand for organised accommodation infrastructure in Ayodhya as the city experiences sustained growth in pilgrimage tourism supported by infrastructure upgrades and improved connectivity.
Eco Hotels and Resorts Limited has launched a new hotel property in Ayodhya, expanding its presence in India's religious tourism market as visitor inflows to the temple city continue to rise sharply following major infrastructure upgrades and the development of pilgrimage facilities.
The hospitality company announced earlier this week that the newly completed property is located approximately 5 kilometres from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and is intended to serve pilgrims and cultural travellers visiting the city. The project forms part of the company's strategy to expand into destinations witnessing sustained tourism growth linked to religious and cultural attractions.
The hotel includes 33 guest rooms and offers supporting facilities such as a rooftop restaurant, landscaped lawn and a swimming pool. According to the company, the property has been designed to cater to both individual pilgrims and organised tour groups seeking professionally managed accommodation in proximity to the temple complex.
Ayodhya has recorded a significant surge in visitor numbers in recent years, particularly following the development of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple precinct and the expansion of regional transport infrastructure. Tourist arrivals increased from approximately 57.5 million in 2023 to more than 160 million in 2024. The city continued to witness strong inflows in 2025, with over 230 million devotees visiting during the first half of the year alone.
The rising tourism activity has created increased demand for hospitality infrastructure, including hotels, guest houses and organised accommodation facilities. Local economic activity linked to pilgrimage tourism has also expanded, generating opportunities for small businesses, artisans, transport operators and other service providers supporting the visitor economy.
Eco Hotels and Resorts stated that the Ayodhya property will operate with an emphasis on vegetarian cuisine and culturally aligned hospitality services suited to religious tourism. The hotel's in-house restaurant, Sahar Back to the Roots, serves satvik meals prepared without onion or garlic and also offers gluten-free breakfast options.
The company also indicated that the property incorporates operational measures aimed at improving resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact. These include energy-efficient systems and resource management practices aligned with the company's sustainability-focused hospitality model.
Vinod Kumar Tripathi, chairman of Eco Hotels and Resorts Limited, said the company views Ayodhya as one of India's fastest-growing tourism markets and described the new hotel as part of its strategy to expand into destinations with strong cultural and pilgrimage demand.
Eco Hotels and Resorts operates a portfolio of hospitality brands including The Eco, The Eco Grand, EcoXpress, The Eco Boutique and EcoValue. With the launch of the Ayodhya property, the company is strengthening its presence in Uttar Pradesh's tourism sector while seeking to expand its network of eco-focused hospitality assets across emerging travel destinations in India.
