Synopsis

Logistics and sustainable infrastructure firm Cargo Matters plans to invest INR 100 crore to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing and charging hub in Andhra Pradesh following a memorandum of understanding signed with the state government. The facility is proposed in Madanapalle and will function as an integrated green freight hub supporting heavy commercial vehicle electrification. The development will include a manufacturing unit for EV chargers, a retrofit facility for converting heavy vehicles to electric powertrains and a research and development centre focused on validation and certification. Of the total planned investment, around INR 50 crore has been earmarked for charging infrastructure designed to support regional heavy-duty electric freight corridors. The company has submitted a detailed project report to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation seeking allocation of 18 acres of industrial land for the project.

Logistics and sustainable infrastructure company Cargo Matters has announced plans to invest INR 100 crore to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing and charging hub in Andhra Pradesh, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the state government.

The proposed facility is planned in Madanapalle and is designed as an integrated green freight hub aimed at supporting the electrification of heavy commercial vehicles across freight transport corridors. The company disclosed the investment plan on Thursday, stating that the project will combine manufacturing, retrofit and research capabilities within a single industrial campus.

According to the company, the facility will include a manufacturing unit dedicated to the production of electric vehicle chargers. The project will also feature a specialised retrofit centre intended to convert existing heavy commercial vehicles to electric propulsion systems, enabling fleet operators to transition towards lower-emission freight transportation.

In addition, the hub will include a research and development unit responsible for validation, testing and certification of electrification technologies developed for heavy-duty vehicles. The integrated structure is intended to support both equipment manufacturing and the deployment of electric freight solutions.

Cargo Matters said approximately INR 50 crore of the total planned investment will be allocated specifically for the development of charging infrastructure. The charging network is intended to support heavy-duty electric freight corridors in the region, providing dedicated charging solutions for commercial fleets operating in logistics and transport sectors.

Umesh Padala, founder and chairman of Cargo Matters, stated that the Madanapalle facility would offer fleet operators a cost-effective pathway to electrification through advanced retrofitting solutions combined with heavy-duty charging infrastructure.

The company has already submitted a detailed project report to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) seeking the allotment of approximately 18 acres of industrial land in Madanapalle for the development. The land allocation will enable the company to establish the integrated manufacturing and charging hub within the state's industrial ecosystem.

Officials from APIIC indicated that the project aligns with the objectives outlined under the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0 covering the period from 2024 to 2029. The policy framework is designed to encourage investment in electric mobility infrastructure and accelerate the transition towards low-emission transportation systems.

PN Mahesh, director at APIIC, stated that the proposed project supports the state's broader vision for developing a green freight ecosystem through the electrification of heavy commercial vehicles.

According to project estimates, the development is expected to generate approximately 1,000 direct jobs and around 3,000 indirect employment opportunities once operational. The initiative is also intended to create new opportunities for local supply chains and technical workforce development in the region.

Cargo Matters stated that the proposed hub will form part of its wider strategy to promote electrified freight transportation by providing integrated infrastructure and technology solutions for logistics operators transitioning towards electric vehicle fleets.
