Synopsis

Tamara Leisure Experiences has outlined a steady expansion plan to add nine new hospitality properties over the next three to four years, aiming to double its room inventory to 1,200. The company currently operates eight hotels and an AYUSH hospital, with a total of 600 rooms. Its upcoming projects span luxury eco-resorts, midscale leisure hotels, business travel formats, and destination-led offerings across South and East India. Several developments are already underway and are expected to become operational between 2028 and 2030.

Tamara Leisure Experiences has set out plans to significantly expand its hospitality portfolio, with the addition of nine new properties over the next three to four years. The move is expected to double the company's room inventory to around 1,200 rooms, from the current 600.

At present, the company operates eight hotels across eco-luxury resorts, business hotels, and midscale leisure segments. Its portfolio also includes an AYUSH hospital, reflecting its broader focus on wellness-led hospitality alongside traditional hotel formats.

The company's management indicated that the next phase of growth is already in motion, with projects not just at the planning stage but progressing through approvals and nearing pre-opening activities. The nine upcoming properties together account for around 600 additional rooms, effectively doubling both the room count and the number of hotels in operation.

As part of its expansion strategy, Tamara Leisure is moving beyond its traditional South India base. New destinations under consideration include Bodh Gaya in Bihar and Kaziranga in Assam, marking a clear push into eastern and northeastern markets that are seeing rising tourism and pilgrimage-driven demand.

Under its long-term vision for 2030, the company plans to launch several flagship projects. These include The Tamara Kaziranga, positioned as a luxury eco-resort, The Tamara Alleppey with an ultra-luxury houseboat concept, and The Tamara Hosur, designed as a farm resort. In addition, the group will roll out its business and leisure-focused brand, O by Tamara, in locations such as Bodh Gaya and Whitefield.

The midscale leisure brand Lilac is also set to expand, with new properties planned in Velankanni, Kufri, and Kannur. These locations align with the company's focus on pilgrimage centres and coastal destinations, which have shown consistent travel demand in recent years.

Beyond hotels, Tamara Leisure is entering the wedding and social events segment with the launch of a Kalyana Mandapam in Madurai. This venue is intended to cater to large ceremonial and social gatherings, adding a new vertical to the company's hospitality offerings.

The company has stated that all these projects are at different stages of development and are expected to become operational between 2028 and 2030. While Tamara's existing properties are fully owned and operated by the company, most of the upcoming projects will follow the same model, with only one property planned under an asset-light structure.

Investment details for the new developments are yet to be finalised, as some projects are still in early planning stages. Alongside confirmed locations, the company is also evaluating opportunities in cities such as Varanasi, Guwahati, Lucknow, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata as part of its broader national expansion.
